    • A steering damper system for a saddle riding type vehicle having an MR damper includes a damping force calculating unit arranged to calculate a damping force according to a steering angle speed, and an adjusting command output unit arranged to determine a running state from a vehicle speed and a steering angle detected by sensors, with reference to a reference table, and correcting the damping force calculated according to the running state. The reference table has areas divided by a steering angle range according to vehicle speed, and damping force adjustment factors according to running states are assigned to these areas. The steering angle range dividing the areas becomes narrower with an increase in vehicle speed, to accurately reflect the running states of the vehicle. A proper damping force can be generated according to a running state of the vehicle. The steering damper system eases the rider's burden accompanying steering operations, and is excellent in controllability.

    • To generate a damping force in a steering damper only upon an unintentionally caused handle action when it is truly necessary to restrain the turning of the handle, according to whether the cause of a handle action is intentional or unintentional. A rotation type steering damper is provided coaxially with a steering shaft, and the generation of a damping force or zero damping force is selected through a changeover by a variable valve provided in a bypass passage for communication between a right liquid chamber and a left liquid chamber of the steering damper. The changeover is controlled by a control device, which functions based on the direction of a moment exerted on the steering shaft detected by a moment sensor and the magnitude and direction of a rotational angular velocity concerning the turning of the steering shaft detected by a rotational angular velocity sensor, for controlling a damping force that is generated only when an unintentionally caused handle turning action opposite in direction to the moment is present and the rotational angular velocity has exceeded a predetermined threshold value.

    • A rotary damper for remote-controlled vehicles is described. The rotary damper includes a housing containing a fluid, a rotary joint, a rotating member, a protrusion extending from the first end of the rotating member dividing a space within the housing into at least two portions, and a rocker arm. In operation, a linear motion applied to the rocker arm translates into rotary motion on the rotating member, causing the protrusion to move through the fluid within the housing. An elastic member may be coaxially mounted on the rotating member to resist the rotary motion translated from the rocker arm. The elastic member generates a spring force, and the protrusion moving through the liquid generates a damping force. In other examples, the damping force is generated using a fluid-shearing object moving through the liquid, such as a slotted disc or an impeller.
