    • The hydraulic coupling according to the present invention generally includes a multi-plate clutch assembly operatively connecting a pair of rotary members, an actuator assembly for actuating the clutch assembly, and a fluid control system operable for controlling actuation of the actuator assembly. The actuator assembly includes a hydraulic pump and a piston mounted in a piston chamber for movement relative to the multi-plate clutch assembly. The fluid control system regulates the fluid pressure supplied to the piston chamber by the hydraulic pump to control the clutch engagement force exerted by the piston on the clutch assembly. The fluid control system includes an electrically-controlled flow control valve operable for regulating the fluid pressure delivered to the piston chamber. Preferably, the flow control valve is a pulse-width modulated PWM) valve having a moveable valve element. The position of the valve element is controlled by an electronic traction control module that monitors and responds to certain vehicle operating conditions, including a sump fluid temperature, a coupling outlet oil temperature, the four wheel speeds, and the piston chamber pressure. The electronic traction control module sends a control signal to the PWM control valve for modulating the hydraulic pressure supplied to the piston chamber, which, in turn, controls clutch engagement.

    • An automated powershift multi-speed transmission adapted to transfer power from the engine to the driveline of a motor vehicle. The transmission includes an engine clutch assembly having a primary clutch operable to establish a releasable drive connection between the engine and a first input shaft, and a secondary clutch operable to establish a releasable drive connection between the engine and a second input shaft. The transmission also includes an output shaft adapted to transfer power to the driveline, and a geartrain for selectively establishing a plurality of forward and reverse speed ratio drive connections between the input shafts and the output shaft. In addition, the transmission includes power-operated dog clutches for selectively engaging constant-mesh gearsets associated with the geartrain, and a transmission controller for controlling coordinated actuation of the engine clutch assembly and the power-operated dog clutches to permit non-power interrupted (“powershift”) sequential gear changes automatically without input from the vehicle operator. A clutch control system includes a first hydraulic pump driven by the first input shaft, a second hydraulic pump driven by the second input shaft, and flow control valving for controlling fluid flow between the first and second pumps. When shifting under power between gear ratios, one of the clutches associated with the engine clutch assembly is released such that the pump associated with the driven input shaft supplies fluid to the pump associated with released input shaft for causing acceleration/deceleration of the released input shaft into synchronization with the output shaft. Following completion of speed synchronization, the dog clutch for the selected gearset associated with the released input shaft is actuated and thereafter the released clutch is re-engaged and the engaged clutch is released.

    • A torque transfer coupling includes first and second rotary members. A transfer clutch operatively connects the first and second rotary members. A piston, disposed in a piston chamber, is actuable to engage the transfer clutch. A hydraulic pump in fluid communication with a sump containing hydraulic fluid has a first pump member fixed for rotation with the first rotary member and a second pump member fixed for rotation with the second rotary member such that relative rotation between the first and the second pump members generates a fluid pumping action. A first flow path supplies hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic pump to the piston chamber. A second flow path supplies hydraulic fluid from the piston chamber to a control valve for regulating the pressure of the hydraulic fluid supplied to the piston chamber. The second flow path includes an aperture extending through the second pump member.

    • A power transmission system for a working vehicle comprises: a vehicle frame; a prime mover mounted on the vehicle frame; a pair of left and right drive wheels; a pair of left and right transaxles juxtaposed on the vehicle frame, wherein each of the left and right transaxles includes a single axle for individually driving each of the left and right drive wheels in forward and rearward directions; a working device; and a working power clutch unit disposed between the left and right transaxles so as to clutch on/off power transmitted from the prime mover to the working device.
