    • A pump comprising a housing comprising a rotor chamber, inlet and outlet channels opening into the rotor chamber, and inlet and outlet seals mounted on a surface of the chamber, and a rotor rotatably and axially slidably received in the chamber and comprising a first axial extension comprising a liquid supply channel and a second axial extension comprising a liquid supply channel, the first and second axial extensions having different diameters. The inlet and outlet seals engage a surface of the rotor, whereby the liquid supply channel of each axial extension in conjunction with a corresponding seal forms a valve that opens and closes as a function of the angular and axial displacement of the rotor. At least one of the inlet and outlet channels opens transversely into the rotor chamber and at least one of the inlet and outlet seals forms a closed circuit circumscribing said at least one of the inlet and outlet channels.

    • A device for pumping a flowable mass, such as a consumable item, has a main body with a hollow space that is fluidically connected with a mass source through an inlet opening and with a mass destination through an outlet opening in the surroundings of the main body. The inlet opening and the outlet opening are disposed along a direction at a distance from each other on the main body. A first body and a second body can each be moved in the hollow space relative to the main body and relative to each other along the direction. The first and second bodies are sealed against an inside wall and slidable on the inside wall to define a chamber. Moving the first body and/or the second body varies the volume of the chamber and its position relative to be main body.

    • A pump unit includes a suction pump and a driving mechanism for driving the suction pump. The suction pump has a pump body provided with a suction port and a discharge port which are axially spaced, and a first piston and a second piston slidably fitted in the pump body to form a suction chamber therebetween. In operation, the driving mechanism moves the first piston away from the second piston to expand the suction chamber so that a negative pressure prevails in the suction chamber and ink is suctioned through the suction port into the suction chamber; moves both the pistons at the same moving speed until the suction chamber is expanded to a predetermined extent, the suction port is closed by the second piston and the first piston opens the discharge port; moves the first piston in the reverse direction until the same comes into contact with the second piston to discharge the ink suctioned into the suction chamber through the discharge port; and moves both the pistons in the reverse direction to return the pistons to their initial position. The pump housing may be of a cylindrical shape or an annular shape. A suction pump in a modification may be provided with a plurality of pairs of pistons forming a plurality of suction chambers each provided with a suction port and a discharge port.
