    • A method and device for drying a paper web in a dryer section having a number of successive dryer groups with a single-wire draw, and being situated after a press section of the paper machine. Each dryer group includes contact-drying cylinders arranged in a first row and reversing suction cylinders or equivalent suction rolls arranged in a second row, the rows being horizontal, diagonal or vertical rows. The paper web is dried by contact-drying cylinders from the side of its lower face across the entire length of the dryer section. The paper web is passed as a closed draw from one dryer group to the next group, and the paper web is guided, while it runs on the drying wire at the side of the outside curve, by the reversing suction cylinders having a curve radius selected in a range from about 250 mm to about 1000 mm. The paper web is kept in constant contact with the drying wire as it is placed at the side of the outside curve, against the effect of centrifugal forces by a pressure difference which preferably extends over the entire inner circumference of the reversing suction cylinders. In addition to the above, or as an alternative, the paper web is dried from the side of its upper face on a draw or draws of the paper web that is/are free from the wire and/or a flow of drying air is applied to the upper face of the paper web through the drying wire and/or on the draws of the paper web that are free from the wire.

    • Apparatus for distributing a heating medium, such as steam or hot air, to a paper web or calendar roll in sheet making machinery includes a removable profile screen to permit easy cleaning and maintenance. The apparatus comprises an elongated chamber to receive steam or hot air from a supply source with a front wall adapted to receive a removable screen. The removable screen is flexible and defines at least a portion of the front wall conforming generally to the shape of the adjacent surface to be heated. The screen member has a plurality of apertures through which the heating medium is forced to heat the surface. The screen is removably mounted to the apparatus by clip members.

    • An apparatus for drying a web of roll material has two rows of comparatively low and high temperature cylinders, and a metal belt and a felt belt entrained in parallel for transporting the web on a serpentine path around the cylinders. The metal belt is pre-heated at an input side to each low temperature cylinder to a temperature from 140.degree. C. to 170.degree. C. An input press roll applies a nip pressure to the metal belt against the web, felt belt, and low temperature cylinder from 60 to 200 pli (pounds per linear inch). The surface of the low temperature cylinder is heated to an intermediate temperature from 100.degree. C. to 140.degree. C. The temperature of the heated belt at an input side is maintained only about 20.degree. C. higher than that of the low temperature cylinder. The low temperature cylinder has air pressure grooves for maintaining a negative air pressure in the range of 0.1 to 0.7 bar at its surface for lowering the vapor pressure for water evaporated from the web. A uniform drying and densification of the web is obtained, without excessive buildup of web pressure or breaking or delamination of the web.
