摘要： A steel cord (10) adapted for the reinforcement of elastomeric articles including a center structure of one to five center filaments (16) and a maximum of two layers of layer filaments surrounding said center structure: an outer layer of outer layer filaments (12, 13) and optionally, an intermediate layer of intermediate layer filaments (24) between the center structure and the outer layer. All the center filaments (16) and all the layer filaments (12, 13, 24) have the same twist hand and have the same twist pitch. The outer layer filaments (12, 13) exert a force which is directed radially inward.

Such a steel cord is manufactured by making use of two false twisters.

摘要： A steel cord, having steel filaments twisted so as to have a final twist pitch, is manufactured by plastically deforming the steel filaments by overtwisting the steel cord to a twist pitch which is smaller than the final twist pitch, untwisting the steel cord to the final twist pitch, further untwisting the steel cord to a twist pitch which is greater than the final twist pitch, and twisting the steel cord again to the final twist pitch. The first two steps (i.e., overtwisting and untwisting) are done under a first tension and the third and fourth steps (i.e., further untwisting and twisting) are done under a second tension which is lower than half of the first tension.

摘要： A conductor strand 12 for an electric cable 10 is disclosed. The conductor strand includes a solid first wire 16 having a longitudinal axis A.sub.1, an inner layer of six solid wires 20 twisted helically about the first wire and an outer layer 24 formed of two different diameter wires. The outer layer includes six third wires 26 spaced circumferentially one from the other leaving a gap G therebetween. Disposed in each gap is a fourth wire 28 having a diameter which lies in a range of sixty-eight percent to seventy-eight percent of the diameter of the third wire. A method for making the cable is disclosed which includes the steps of helically twisting the inner layer about the first wire with a lay greater than the lay of the finished conductor, twisting the outer layer of wires about the inner layer of wire with that greater lay, and twisting the outer and inner wires about the first wire to reduce the lay to the lay of the finished conductor strand.
