    • A rapier loom comprises at least two rigid weft carriers, rocking lever mechanisms adapted to impart opposed reciprocatory movements to said carriers, a transverse shaft, a sley, two lateral swords carrying said sley, and means mounting said swords for oscillatory movement about said shaft, said sley being constituted by a one-piece hollow beam which extends at each side of said loom beyond the pertaining sley whereby to form two extensions one at each said side of said loom, and struts rigidly connecting each one of said two extensions to a corresponding extension of said shaft.

    • The invention discloses an elongate spliced member, particularly a tooth rack for a rapier loom, and a method for making same. The spliced member includes two elongate member segments joined at respective ends and having at least one through aperture positioned laterally from a respective first side to a second side adjacent the joined ends. An elongate recess is formed on opposed surfaces of the member segments, and each recess surrounds a respective aperture and communicates with the respective joined end of the segments. A carbon fiber strand is wound alternately through the aperture in each of the segments to splice the segments together end-to-end. The spliced member has the functional characteristics equivalent to an integrally-formed member of the same length.

    • A crank drive has four axes extending in space and intersecting in a common point. The angles between two neighboring axes are adjustable as required. These angles are enclosed between the drive shaft and the power take-off shaft and between intermediate axes. Thus, it is possible to superimpose different individual operational sequences on one another to realize complicated transmission functions. Such so-called "spacial" crank drives are, for example, suitable for shuttleless looms having gripper rods. In such a loom the present spacial crank drive permits the adjustment of the displacement or insertion stroke of the gripper rods and the simultaneous adapting of the end positions of the gripper rods to the individual requirements while still maintaining the pause durations and permitting, if necessary, different feed advance speeds for the individual gripper rods.
