摘要： This invention relates to a method and apparatus for the in situ melting and removal of liquid sulphur from a solid sulphur storage block. The method comprises supplying heat to the storage block sufficient to melt the sulphur of the storage block to produce liquid sulphur, collecting the liquid sulphur and removing the liquid sulphur. The apparatus comprises heating means for heating and melting the sulphur storage block to produce liquid sulphur, means for collecting the liquid sulphur and means for removing the liquid sulphur from the collecting means.

摘要： A method of, and apparatus for, melting block sulfur to avoid contamination of the environment by sulfur dust employ a heating element having a plurality of flow passages formed by pipe sections in a generally planar array, with a steam inlet and a condensate outlet enabling steam to be flowed through the passages. The underside of the heating element has a flow surface adjacent one edge thereof, and a suspension is provided for lowering the heating element onto the sulfur block with the heating element downwardly inclined towards that edge and with the edge projecting beyond the sulfur block so that molten sulfur adhering by surface tension to the flow surface flows beyond the sulfur block and drops into a collecting trough.

摘要： Apparatus for melting sulphur, including an upstanding tube, or tubes, each being adapted to receive solid sulphur in its top open end and each having a heating jacket therearound. The sulphur along the tube wall is melted and caused to flow along the wall surface and out of the lower end of the tube. A heated plate is spaced from the lower end of the tube whereby flow of the melted sulphur from the tube is permitted, additional sulphur being melted by the plate, and flow of solid sulphur is stopped. The plate is sloped to permit the flow of the liquid sulphur into a trough for flow for storage or use elsewhere.A method of melting sulphur by which solid sulphur is fed into the upper end of a vertical tube. The tube is heated to melt the sulphur against the tube wall. A film of melted sulphur is caused to flow down the wall and out of the tube bottom onto a sloping, heated plate and into a trough for removal or use. The flow of solid sulphur is stopped by the plate.

摘要： A process for preparing sulfuric acid may involve melting elemental sulfur in a melting stage to give molten sulfur. Sulfuric acid is subsequently produced from the molten sulfur. Further, sulfur-containing offgases formed in the melting stage may be subjected to oxidation in a supplementary oxidation stage in which sulfur-containing components of the offgases are oxidized to sulfur dioxide. The process may further involve processing the sulfur dioxide to give at least one reaction product. The melting stage may be operated without emissions by processing all of the offgases from the melting stage. An apparatus may be employed for carrying out such a process.”
