    • A lifting device for vehicles includes a column forming a frame, extending substantially vertically above a base, and a lifter movable along the column by controlling the rotation of a threaded rod by a driving device and by the movement, along the threaded rod, of a nut secured to a carriage on which the load to be lifted can rest. There is a fall-arresting safety device including a ratchet occupying at least a first unlocked position and a locked position engaging with at least one tooth of a ratchet wheel so as to lock the rotation of the threaded rod. There is a retaining device for the ratchet in the unlocked position and a controller for the return of the ratchet to the locked position.

    • A system for monitoring and/or controlling equipment in a hazardous area can include at least one sensor disposed within the hazardous area. Each sensor can be non-electrical and can be adapted to interact with the equipment and generate at least a first sensor output and second sensor output. The first sensor output can be indicative of a first equipment state and a second sensor output can be indicative of a second equipment state. The system can also include at least one converter disposed outside the hazardous area. Each converter can be in communication with at least one of the sensors. Each converter can be configured to receive the first and second sensor output and generate a converter output signal based on at least one of the first and second sensor outputs.

    • A controller for use with a machine comprising a machine body, and a load handling apparatus coupled to the machine body and moveable by a movement actuator with respect to the machine body, the controller being configured to receive a signal representative of the position of the load handling apparatus with respect to the machine body and a signal representative of a moment of tilt of the machine, wherein the controller is further configured to issue a signal for use by an element of the machine including the movement actuator, which in response to the signal issued by the controller, is configured to restrict or substantially prevent a movement of the load handling apparatus when a value of the signal representative of the moment of tilt reaches a threshold value, the threshold value being dependent on the signal representative of the position of the load handling apparatus with respect to the machine body.

    • A hoist safety lock mechanism includes a pair of pawls formed on terminal ends of each corner of a pallet support structure. The pawls are biased outward to an extended position and include a lower support surface adapted to rest on a support surface. The pawls may be pivotally deflected downward (but not upward) due to impact on a top surface of the pawl. Each pawl is configured to be received within a respective parallel column of slots formed on inwardly-facing sides of the vertical posts forming the lifting frame of the hoist. The slots within each column are vertically offset and separated by separators which can vertically deflect the pawls. Because the slots are vertically offset, and because each terminal end includes a pair of pawls, there is always at least one pawl engaged within the slot even if the other of the pair is deflected by contact with a separator. Thus, any failure of the hoist will cause the pallet support structure to only fall to the next lower separator before the pawl catches it.

    • A restraint system for restraining a worker to a platform of an aerial device comprises a restraint liner and a platform strap. The restraint liner includes four sidewalls, a floor, a lip, an interior anchor, and an exterior anchor. The floor may be coupled to one end of the four sidewalls, while the lip may be coupled to the opposing end of the four sidewalls and may extend therefrom. The interior anchor may be positioned on an interior surface of a first sidewall and operable to couple to a liner strap coupled to a worker. The exterior anchor may be positioned on an exterior surface of the first sidewall. The platform strap may be coupled to the exterior anchor and operable to couple to the platform.
