    • A method and apparatus (20) for accumulating articles (28) can include a dispensing of the articles with a rotating, metering drum (40) for movement to a first conveyor (50). The metering drum (40) has an entry end (86) and an exit end (88), and in a particular aspect, the metering drum (40) can be configured such that a rotation of the metering drum overcomes a static friction which would inhibit a movement of the articles (28) downstream through the metering drum. In another aspect the metering drum (40) can include at least one lug member (90) which is positioned and attached inside the metering drum at the exit end (88) of the metering drum. In further aspects, a ramp member (43) can be configured to extend an operative distance into the volume of the metering drum, and can be spaced away from an inside wall surface of the metering drum by a selected offset distance.

    • Improvement to devices for measuring the quantity of products for canning comprising a quantity-measuring chamber which is substantially vertical and mounted on a support rotating about an axis substantially parallel to the axis of the chamber, the latter consisting of a tubular enclosure inside which slides a piston and having its lower part connected via a supply conduit, to a tank containing the product for canning and via a delivery conduit to a vertical cylindrical filling nozzle, in which slides a secondary piston, the delivery conduit issuing into the nozzle through a lateral opening entirely situated above the orifice by which the conduit communicates with the chamber. A controlled valve opens or closes a passage between at least the supply conduit and the measuring chamber. The delivery conduit is entirely situated inside the cylinder described by the axis of the measuring chamber during the rotation of the support. The invention finds an application in canning installations.

    • In an apparatus for the metered feeding of poorly flowable materials by endless conveyor belt having an upper and lower run, the conveyor belt includes carrier plates which define pockets for conveying the material from an inlet through a compacting zone and a metering zone, to an outlet at which the metered compacted material is released from the pockets and allowed to pass out of the outlet. In the metering zone the upper and lower runs of the conveyor belt are maintained in close adjacency such that the inward ends of the plates on the upper and lower runs of the conveyor belt cooperate with each other to provide a known amount of material in the pockets on the lower run of the conveyor belt.
