    • Inventive embodiments are directed to components, subassemblies, systems, and/or methods for continuously variable transmissions (CVT). In one embodiment, a main axle is adapted to receive a carrier assembly to facilitate the support of components in a CVT. In another embodiment, a carrier includes a stator support member and a stator interfacial member. In some embodiments, the stator interfacial member is configured to interact with planet subassemblies of a CVT. Various inventive planet subassemblies and idler assemblies can be used to facilitate shifting the ratio of a CVT. In some embodiments, the planet subassemblies include legs configured to have a sliding interface with a carrier assembly. Embodiments of a hub shell, a hub cover are adapted to house components of a CVT and, in some embodiments, to cooperate with other components of the CVT to support operation and/or functionality of the CVT. Among other things, shift control interfaces and braking features for a CVT are disclosed.

    • A power transmission system used in connection with a vehicle power wheel of a bicycle or other vehicle which has a fixed axle and which utilizes a rotating chain sprocket engaging an endless chain receiving an input torque and transmitting an output torque. The system includes a transmission ratio varying apparatus that is operable connected to the wheel by the endless chain. The transition ration apparatus incorporates a drive collar fixedly secured to a sprocket and having one or more input and output drive rings. A drive body is displaceable with respect to the input and output drive rings and includes input and output pawls pivotally connected to the drive body and engageable with the input and output drive rings. A shifter housing is moveable with respect to the fixed axle cam to rotatable shift the drive body with respect to the drive ring and change the relationship between the input and output pawls and thereby vary the torque transmission ratio. An operator handle rotor and a cable connecting the operator handle rotor with the shifter collar functions to move the shifter housings with respect to the fixed axle cams.

    • A continuously variable transmission is disclosed for use in rotationally or linearly powered machines and vehicles. The transmission provides a simple manual shifting method for the user. Further, the practical commercialization of traction roller transmissions requires improvements in the reliability, ease of shifting, function and simplicity of the transmission. The present invention includes a continuously variable transmission that may be employed in connection with any type of machine that is in need of a transmission.     • The drive hub for a vehicle, particularly a bicycle, comprises a hub axle 1, a hub sleeve 9 adapted to rotate in relation to the hub axle 1 and a driver 13 mounted to rotate on the hub axle 1. The driver 13 drives the hub sleeve 9 through a friction gear 17 of which the first toroidal disc 25 is rotationally rigidly connected to the hub axle 1, of which the second toroidal disc 27 is connected to the driver 13 via a ratchet free wheel coupling 23 and drives the friction wheel carrier 43 which is provided with a plurality of friction wheels 35 and which is, in force-locking manner, connected to the hub sleeve 9 via an expanding coupling 20. The infinitely adjustable transmission ratio of the friction gear 17 is controlled from within the hub axle 1 via a linkage 53 which, via a coupling ring 47, entrains the pivotally mounted lever 39c of the pivot frames of the friction wheels 35. The system's own transmission of the friction gear 17 from the driver 13 to the friction wheel carrier 43 downwards can be compensated by rotary speed increasing measures both at the chain drive and also within the friction gear 17 by asymmetrical disposition of the toroidal zones.
