摘要： A method of forming a Salisbury axle that includes: forming an assembly having a housing that is made of nodular iron, the housing having an opening and a pair of apertures; removing a pair of caps from the housing to expose a pair of journals; installing a differential through the opening to the journals; replacing the caps to the journals; forming a pair of axle tubes from a high strength steel, each of the axle tubes having a circular proximal end, a circular distal end and a mount portion between the proximal and distal ends, the proximal ends of the axle tubes being larger in diameter than the apertures, the mount portion having a top wall and a pair of opposite side walls that are oriented generally perpendicular to the top wall; and inserting the proximal ends of the axle tubes into the apertures. A Salisbury axle is also provided.

摘要： In a banjo type axle casing comprising an enlarged center case portion for housing a differential gear and a pair of sleeve-like case portions outwardly extending from opposite ends of said center case portion for housing an axle shaft, an oil deflector for covering the axle shaft is provided, wherein said oil deflector is formed of a thin sheet wound into a cylindrical form, only one end of said oil deflector is restrained, the other unrestrained end of said oil deflector is inserted into and engaged with the inner peripheral surface of said sleeve-like case portions as an outer end which is freely deformable along the inner peripheral surface of said sleeve-like case portions, and the restrained end is spaced apart at a predetermined interval from the differential gear as an inner end.

摘要： A structure for supporting a generally cylindrical hollow tube comprising at least one trunnion which is adapted for receiving a generally cylindrical hollow tube. The trunnion includes a radially stepped bore formed therein and extending between first and second ends of the trunnion. The stepped bore includes a first generally cylindrical portion extending axially from the first end toward the second end. The first portion of the bore has a diameter which is less than an outside diameter of the tube, so that the tube engages the trunnion in an interference fit throughout the first portion of the bore. The stepped bore further includes a second axially extending, generally cylindrical portion having a diameter which is greater than the diameter of the first portion of the bore and greater than the outside diameter of the tube, so that the tube does not engage the trunnion in an interference fit in the area corresponding to the second portion of the bore. The trunnion further includes at least one radially extending hole formed therethrough and intersecting the second portion of the stepped bore.

Further, a generally rhombic opening is formed in a longitudinally middle portion of the sheet material. The axle housing is produced by mounting a generally rhombic cover plate onto the housing body so as to cover the opening.
