    • A portable, vehicle-towed cut-off saw for firewood and the like is herein disclosed for cutting down regular length firewood into pieces that can be used in a stove or smaller fireplace. The invention is mounted on a steel frame with two wheels and a trailer tongue that allows it to be towed by a vehicle such as an automobile, truck or all-terrain vehicle (ATV). The invention is powered mechanically by an on-board four cylinder gasoline engine which provides power via a series of belts and pulleys. The pulleys drive a large diameter circular saw blade which pivots from the bottom of a large feed table. The invention will cut wood up to 12″ in diameter with one pass. The saw blade is retractable, is protected by a guard, and is only exposed when cutting wood. The invention can be towed directly to the cutting or piling site and is easily moved and operated by one person. The use of the device allows for the cutting of firewood into smaller pieces using production cutting methods in a manner which is not only quick, easy and effective, but safer and less fatiguing as well.

    • The present invention relates to a miter saw including a base, a turntable, a first rotary shaft for connecting the base to the turntable, a supporting arm and a saw unit. Two micro-adjusting and locking mechanisms which are similar in structure are used to accurately position and reliably lock either or both of the supporting arm or turntable. Each micro-adjusting and locking mechanism has a wormgear which is fixed, a worm, a micro-adjusting handle which is connected to the worm, an eccentric sleeve, an actuator such as a lock-release knob which is connected to the eccentric sleeve and a torsion spring. An axis of the worm is parallel to but not overlapping the axis of the eccentric sleeve. The worm is engaged with the wormgear when the micro-adjusting and locking mechanism is in a first working state. The worm is disengaged from the wormgear when the micro-adjusting and locking mechanism is in a second working state. In this way, the present invention offers secure locking and precise positioning of the turntable and/or of the supporting arm.

    • Previous methods of bucksawing logs slow the throughput of a sawmill in that the conveyor line is stopped while a given log is bucksawed to length. The present invention provides a method for bucksawing a log which improves the throughput speed. The present invention provides a method and apparatus for bucksawing a log comprising the steps of a) advancing the log endwise along a tilted infeed conveyor; b) positioning the log on a tilted feed roll above the level of an outfeed conveyor while advancing the log; c) measuring the advance of the log while on the tilted feed roll; d) stopping the log at the desired length; e) sawing the log to produce a forward log segment; f) moving the forward log segment onto a tilted outfeed conveyor while advancing the remaining log segments. The present invention further provides a method and apparatus for bucksawing a log comprising utilizing a second multi-positional cut-off saw in the bucksawing station. The present invention further provides a method for bucksawing a log comprising utilizing a shifting gap in the conveyor system associated with the second multi-positional cut-off saw in the bucksawing station. The present invention further provides a method and apparatus for bucksawing a log comprising utilizing two multi-positional cut-off saws in the bucksawing station for indefinite length cuts.

    • An Improved Ground Cover Cutter is disclosed. Also disclosed is a device that permits the user to cut normal home garden green waste and other plant material into plugs that can then be used as a highly efficient and decorative ground cover. The disclosed cutter may be configured to be portable and further may include a collapsible platform that is configured to permit the cutter to rest atop a receptacle, such as a standard trash can, while in use. The preferred device and method provide the ability to cooperatively use a standard off-the-shelf hand circular saw to cut the plugs. The device preferably also includes a saw chamber for reducing the emission of environmental noise and dust. It is a further feature of the device to include a feed stabilizer means for restrain materials being fed down the device's feed tunnel and into the cutting chamber. Finally, the device includes a clearing bar for easily and safely clearing jammed plant material from the cutting chamber without the need for stopping the saw motor.

    • The present invention discloses a log sawing system comprising multiple cutting blades. The multiple cutting blades are positioned to cut laterally or perpendicular to the centerline of the log which is to be cut. The logs are transported into cutting position using some type of log positioner. The multiple cutting blades are rotatably mounted on an arm which is pivotally mounted on a shaft in groups, being driven by an electrical or like motor, all of which are mounted onto a platform positioned adjacent to the log to be cut. Hydraulic lifters are used to partially rotate the saw blades into the cutting position adjacent the log. Means utilizing a computer and lasers are provided to develop a log cutting solution to best utilize the logs.
