    • A cutting machine for cutting metal, comprising: an understructure, rails (8), a driving trolley (2), a driven trolley (3), a cross beam (1), a transverse driving device (4), a hoisting device (6), a tow chain (9), a rail cleaning device (11), a torch support (10) and a software control system. The rails (8) with a circular cross section are parallel mounted on the understructure, and the driving trolley (2) and the driven trolley (3) move synchronously on the rails (8). An automatic longitudinal adjusting device (7) is provided at the driving trolley (2) and at one end of the drawn cross beam (1), and the driven trolley (3) is rigidly connected to the other end of the cross beam (1). Longitudinal driving devices (5) are installed symmetrically at the lower parts of the driving trolley (2) and the driven trolley (3). The longitudinal driving devices (5) comprise rack and pinion and guiding mechanisms for adjusting the distance between the rack and the gear by elastically sliding. The cutting machine according to the invention has a compact structure and operates in a stable and reliable manner.

    • The invention relates to a drive apparatus (10) for the linear movement of a processing tool with respect to a workpiece, having a tool holder (18) which is fixed on a carriage (16) and is intended for the fastening of the processing tool, having a stationary guide device (12) in which the carriage (16) is guided such that it can be displaced in a vertically linear manner, and having a drive device (42) with a first force transmission means (46) which, in an engaged position, engages with a second force transmission means (40) connected to the carriage (16) in order to move the carriage (16). According to the invention, it is provided that the drive device (42) is mounted in the guide device (12) such that it can be moved between a release position, in which the force transmission means (40, 46) do not engage with one another, and the engaged position in such a way that the gravitational force of the drive device (42) causes a movement from the release position into the engaged position.

    • A hexapod machine is disclosed in which six adjustable length struts couple to a controllably moveable platform at three triangularly spaced locations at each of which a pair of struts couple together and to the platform at a bifurcated universal joint. The struts extend away from the platform and through machine nodes defined at triangularly spaced-apart locations in a machine sub-frame, and at each such node a strut extending from one platform location and the next adjacent strut from the next adjacent platform location come together and cross each other in respective hemispheres of a bifurcated sphere journalled for multidirectional pivotal movement in a socket in the sub-frame. The hemispheres each contain a motor which is frictionally engaged with the respective strut so as to enable it to be driven through the hemisphere to adjust its effective length. By control of the motors, the platform position and orientation can be adjusted in space. Also disclosed is a pentapod machine in which a tripod with three adjustable legs defines the position of a first tool support, and the position of a second spaced-apart tool support is defined by two adjustable legs, a tool being supported between said two supports.

    • A workpiece transfer device for machine tools that easily achieves positional adjustment of the rack while suppressing increases in cost and therefore preventing occurrences of vibrations and noise is disclosed. The workpiece transfer device includes a frame member having a rectangular cross-section. The device extends from a workpiece machining position to a workpiece loading/unloading position. A support member is hung on the frame member so as to be movable via a linear guide and which has a workpiece holding mechanism mounted thereon. A drive mechanism for rotationally driving a pinion gear engaged with a rack is provided on the frame member so as to be parallel to the linear guide so that the support member is moved between the two positions. The linear guide is disposed on one wall of the frame member and the rack is disposed on another wall surface so as to have its position adjustable.
