    • An apparatus configured to make blanks that would be used to assemble a CVT belt formed from such blanks. The CVT is assembled by arrange a body portion of the blanks on an inner periphery, a head portion on an outer periphery, and a neck portion, which connects the head and body. The apparatus has a die that has an opening shape conforming to a planar shape of the element to be formed. An ejector that has a sectional shape conforming to the opening shape of the blanking blade and is located inside the blanking blade. A punch that has a sectional shape conforming to the opening shape of the blanking blade and moves downward into the blanking blade to blank the element together with the blanking blade, and a pusher that is located around the punch and presses the flat plate-like material against the die.

    • A method for forming a convex tilting zone (23) at a main body-surface (11) of a transverse element for application in a push belt for a continuously variable transmission comprises the step of applying a die (30) that is placed against the main body surface (11) under pressure. However, the die (30) is pressed against the main body surface (11) just outside of an area where the tilting zone (23) needs to be formed. By applying the die (30), a recessed area (27) is arranged in the main body surface (11), wherein retraction of the material of the transverse element takes place along an upper edge (28) of this area (27). A retraction area that is obtained in this manner is suitable to function as tilting zone (23). An important advantage of the application of the described method is that the pressure that is exerted on the die (30) may be considerably lower than the pressure that is required during conventional processes for forming a tilting zone (23).

When the element is blanked out of a metal sheet, an excess amount of metal produced by pressing the substantially half lower portion of the body flows from the body into the metal sheet positioned on an opposite side of the neck and a metal flow is produced into laterally spaced ends of the neck. The head has relatively thick laterally spaced ends and the head neck and the body have respective thicknesses equal to or smaller than the thickness of the head. The laterally spaced side end regions of the body have a thickness smaller than a thickness of the lower region of the neck in the substantially half upper portion of the body.

    • A method for manufacturing a V-block of a metal belt type continuously variable transmission is provided. The V-block is formed by punching a V-block press material with a main punch and a counter punch. The V-block press material has a sectional view including an outer portion of about uniform width and a tapered inner portion with a slant gently inclined toward an innermost end of the material from a place distant from a rocking edge by a predetermined distance inward. The main punch and the counter punch have front shapes of the substantially same as that of the V-block, and either punch facing the rocking edge has a slant starting at a place corresponding to the rocking edge and extending inward rising gradually.
