    • The invention relates to a centrifuge with a drive head which can be connected with a drive, a rotor which can detachably be mounted on the drive head, at least one connection element with which the drive head can be connected in a torsion-proof manner with the rotor, and at least one coupling element which is attached to the drive head and is able to exert an axial force on the rotor in such a way that the rotor can be fixed axially, with the axial force increasing with the rising rotational speed of the drive head, with the coupling element on the rotor transmitting the axial force by means of a ramp surface which is inclined at an angle (α) relative to the horizontal line in a range of more than 0° to 15°. Secure locking of the rotor during standstill and high speeds can thus be achieved.

    • An assembly for transferring rotation from a centrifuge drive system to a centrifuge rotor includes a hub that is connected to the drive system for rotation about an axis. A sleeve member is attached to the hub in a position to support the centrifuge rotor. The sleeve member is formed of a material having a low coefficient of friction and is positioned to reduce the likelihood of rotor-to-hub lock. The resistance of the sleeve member to wear and to the absorption of foreign matter are also important in the selection of a material for forming the sleeve member. An acetal-based compound is preferred. By connecting the sleeve member to the hub such that the exterior surface of the sleeve member is raised relative to the surface of the hub, rotor-to-hub contact is reduced, thereby further reducing the risk that the rotor and the hub will become locked to one another.

    • Centrifuges are known which have a working head placed on a shaft driven by a motor, and in which a longitudinally slotted sleeve is disposed between the shaft and a central bore in the working head. This sleeve is expanded against the bore by a conical spreader driven by a threaded element screwed onto the end of the drive shaft. To create a tight and wobble-free coupling between the working head and the drive shaft of the centrifuge which will be secure even after long use and frequently changing torque, but which will assure easy release, the shaft has a tapered end and on this end, which reaches into the central bore of the working head, is seated the spreader, which is in the form of a bushing with a tapering bore, and the threaded element has on its outer circumference projections which engage indentations in the spreader.
