    • Methods, devices, and compositions relating to processed grain products are shown for ground corn flour, soybean meal, cottonseed meal, and wheat middlings. An exemplary method shown is a fiber separation process for the ethanol industry corn products of Distillers Dried Grains (DDG) and Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) resulting from the widely used dry grind technology. A shown process and apparatus allows the removal and separate recovery of fiber-reduced products with expanded potential for use as a non-ruminant feed product in addition to the removal and separate recovery of a fiber-enriched product. The fiber enriched and fiber reduced products each have uses in the feed industry. The specific processes, devices, and compositions shown are readily adaptable to feed mills.

    • A continuous process for separating components of flaxseed is described. Flaxseed is dried to a moisture content of from about 0.5% to about 3.0%, after which is introduced into a separation chamber having an abrasive rotator therein. As the flaxseed passes over the abrasive rotator, contact with rotator separates the flaxseed components into hulls and kernels. Hulls and kernels are separated and may be used in this form or processed further. Hulls may be further processed by extraction with water and with hexane to remove flaxseed gum and oil, respectively. These two extractions may be done in any order. The process results in a lignan-rich component of flaxseed, a gum extract and oil. These separate components of flaxseed may be used in products such as feed, personal care products or nutraceuticals.

    • A mobile seed cleaning and/or separating apparatus has a wheeled, self-propelled chassis mounting a plurality of cleaning and/or separating stations. The stations are interconnected by conveyors which transport the seed through the apparatus. The cleaning and/or separating stations include a coarse screen to remove material of a size larger than the seed to be separated, an aspirator to remove relatively light material, a pair of pocket cylinders to separate materials of different sizes and a screen cylinder to finally screen the seed. After cleaning, the seed passes through a weighing device which continuously batch-weights the seed and actuates a prickling machine to introduce a furyside, mold-inhibitor or other chemical.

    • An apparatus for sizing or separating different types of particulate material such as grain, seeds and the like without the need for replacing the sizing screens includes a movable diverter disposed between upper and lower sets of screens. When the diverter is in a first position, material passing through a first sizing screen is directed to the top of a second sizing screen and material which has not passed through the first sizing screen is directed to a discharge pan. When the diverter is in a second position, material which has passed through the first sizing screen is directed toward a discharge pan and material which has not passsed through the first sizing screen is directed toward a second sizing screen.

    • The seed cleaner comprises a scalper drum which drives an auger pick up and which separates all materials thicker than the desired seed such as head, stalks and the like. The remaining fraction then passes through an air cleaner which removes chaff, dust and light fractions. The remainder is fed into a pair of shells or drums which screen out seed and the like which is thinner than the desired fraction and then this desired fraction passes into an indent or pocket-type separator drum. This indent drum includes two sections, the first section which removes seeds shorter than the desired length and the second section which removes and discharges longer than desired seeds. The remaining seed is fed from the second section and collected at the discharge end of a trough pick up of the indent drum.
