    • The present invention relates to a sword for a trainee in the art of swordsmanship; and more particularly, to a multistructured sword of a double or triple structure having a shock-absorbing space in a sword body. Accordingly, the trainee can effectively practices stabbing and cutting actions in the traditional swordsmanship by reducing a shock imposed on him. The present invention includes: a grip formed at an end of the training sword; a sword body member, wherein the sword body member includes at least one sword body inner cover for reducing a shock generated by a striking action and a sword body outer cover, which covers the sword body inner cover, wherein a gap is provided between the sword body inner cover and the sword body outer cover; a cross-guard formed at a boundary between the sword body member and the grip; and a scabbard for protecting the sword body member, wherein a length of the scabbard is shorter than that of the sword body member so that the sword body member passes through the scabbard.

    • A self defense baton comprises a handle portion which includes a central portion and a housing member connected to one end of the central portion. A flashlight portion is connected to the other end of the central portion. At least one telescoping member is slidably disposed within the housing member. The telescoping member is spring loaded and retained within the housing member by a releasable latch. A ring is rotatably attached to the handle portion. To use, the handle portion is grasped with a finger of the grasping hand being inserted through the ring. The releasable latch is activated by the thumb of the grasping hand. A spring, disposed within the housing member, causes the telescoping member to slide out of the housing member thereby expanding the baton. The rotatably attached ring enables rapid manipulation of the baton without risking accidental loss of the baton during these manipulations. The ring may also double as a key ring without loss of maneuverability of the baton.

    • Improved targets suitable for cutting with an edged weapon are disclosed. In an embodiment the target is a prism made of polyethylene foam with a hole for receiving a peg and an external indicia alerting the practitioner of the depth of the hole and, thereby, what portion of the target may be cut without risk of cutting the peg. In an embodiment the target is comprises a polyethylene foam tube or rod with the exterior cylindrical wall covered by a sheath of material, such as paper, that prevents the foam from bending and thereby increases the rigidity of the target. An improved peg for receiving and positively, but removably, engaging a foam target is also disclosed.
