    • A biological fluid processing or fluid filtration system is provided having novel open and closed loop processing systems wherein the gases transferred into and out of the system during processing pass through a porous medium in upstream and/or downstream gas inlet or outlet housings or vents in a manner which precludes the fluid being processed or filtered from ever contacting the housings or vents. Each housing or vent is separated from the fluid by a column of gas in its respective transfer line. The upstream gas inlet housing or vent is in communication with the unfiltered biological fluid, and the downstream gas inlet housing or vent is in communication with the filtered biological fluid.

    • A method for using a packaging material for a medical instrument set, the medical instrument set being housed in said packaging material and assembled from a plurality of medical instruments. The packaging material includes a packaging material body having an opening therein and a lid that closes the opening and holds or fastens, on an inside portion thereof, a blood collecting needle. The method includes an opening operation for peeling off the lid to expose the opening to an outside environment while letting the blood collecting needle through the opening, and then taking the blood collecting needle out from the packaging material body; a preparation operation for removing the blood collecting needle from the lid; and a blood collecting operation for collecting blood by using the blood collecting needle in a stage where the blood-processing part is housed in the packaging material body.

    • A bag connection comprises a first bag, a tube having a blood-drawing needle at the front end, a plurality of second bags, tubes for connecting the first and second bags, and tubes and branch connectors for connecting the second bags to each other. On the other hand, a filter unit includes a filter, and a tube connected at opposite ends thereof to the inlet and outlet of the filter. The tubes of the bag concatenation and the tube of the filter unit have respective markers attached thereto. With these markers used as marks, both tubes are aseptically connected by a tube aseptic connection device, thereby incorporating the filter unit into an intermediate portion of a tube of the bag concatenation.
