The article further includes between 0.1% to 50% by weight of an active agent. 摘要： Devices and methods are provided for transdermal administration of a pharmaceutical agent to a patient in need thereof. The device includes a substrate, a plurality of discrete reservoirs in the substrate, one or more pharmaceutical agents stored in the reservoirs, discrete reservoir caps that prevent the pharmaceutical agent from passing out from the reservoirs until desired, control means for actuating release of the one or more pharmaceutical agents from one or more of the reservoirs by disintegrating or permeabilizing the reservoir caps, means for securing the device to the skin of the patient, and means for transporting the pharmaceutical agent to the skin following release from the one or more of the reservoirs. In another embodiment, the device is adapted for diagnostic sensing instead of or in addition to drug delivery.

摘要： A dissolvable element containing an agent material is used for local administration of the agent material in an internal body area. The dissolvable element is made of dissolvable polymer material and/or complex carbohydrate material which are food grade materials and have selected dissolving properties, such that it remains in substantially solid form before use, and dissolves due to human body temperatures and moisture during use to release the agent material in a desired timed release and dosage. As a contraceptive, the dissolvable element is preferably a film made of polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene oxide, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and/or carboxymethyl cellulose. The dissolvable element may be formed as a laminate of different film layers for compound release properties, or it may be ground into particles and incorporated in a tampon or suppository. The dissolvable element may be foamed as a means for increasing its dissolution rate. The agent material can be a spermicide, such as Nonoxynol-9, and/or a drug or medication. The device of the invention can also be applied topically as for example in the treatment of wounds, burns and ulcers, as well as to treat, irritations, Herpes, and ulcerations and blisters of the oral cavity. It is also possible to prepare dressings in which the dissolvable element of the invention comprises the bottom most layer. This permits painless application of medication to wounds.

摘要： Disclosed is a method and apparatus for the non-invasive determination of one or more preselected analytes in a body fluid expressed through the skin. The fluid is collected in a dermal concentration patch and concentrated by driving off a portion of the substantial water fraction under the influence of body heat. The analyte is optimally complexed with an immobilized specific binding partner and an indicium of the presence of the analyte is visually expressed. The patch may comprise a plurality of test zones for screening for a plurality of analytes. Additional positive and negative control zones are also disclosed. The patch may comprise a feature to detect tampering with the patch to produce false negative results, especially when used in screens for drugs of abuse. In addition to being useful as a drug of abuse screen, the patch is useful for diagnostic purposes.

The wound contact layer can comprise a thin sheet or film forming a generally flat and smooth wound contact surface having essentially no discontinuities or gaps. The wound contact layer can comprise a thin sheet of highly calendered fabric forming a wound contact surface having a mean surface roughness in the range of about 0 microns to about 200 microns. In progressive wound healing, an embodiment of the wound contact device having the fabric contact surface is used in earlier healing stages and an embodiment of the wound contact device with film contact surface is used in later healing stages. The wound contact device is particularly useful in wound dressings for use in suction-assisted wound therapy.

摘要： A hemostatic agent delivery system includes a hemostatic agent which is inert and non-reactive yet is capable of forming a stable clot when applied to an actively bleeding wound. The system also includes a delivery assembly to structure to facilitate delivery of the hemostatic agent proximate the hemorrhage site. More specifically, the delivery assembly is structured to releasably contain the hemostatic agent via a release member which is disposed in cooperative relation with a support member which contains the amount of the hemostatic agent. The release member is structured of a soluble material such that it will at least partially dissolve and release the hemostatic agent upon disposition proximate the hemorrhage site. The delivery assembly further comprises a handle member structured to facilitate delivery of the hemostatic agent to the hemorrhage site.
