    • An extraction platform helps disengage a load from a pliant surface by pumping a portion of the pliant surface out from beneath the platform. By forcibly removing portions of the pliant surface, i.e., debris, mud, snow, from beneath the platform housing, any seals, vacuums, tensile forces, or adhesive constituents are broken or disturbed sufficiently, such that the platform housing and the load disengage from the pliant surface. The platform also provides a large surface area for spreading out the weight of the load. The platform includes a mounting surface that joins with the load. A traction surface engages the pliant surface. A pump portion pumps portions of the pliant surface into an intake aperture, and out through a discharge aperture. A drive portion having sprockets and a cable drives the pump portion through momentum forces created by the platform housing, such as articulations of a walking gait.

    • The sand walking sandal is a hinged sandal for walking on sand having a forward sole section with a foot receiving portion located thereon and an extended forward sole width portion extending outward and laterally from the foot receiving portion. A rearward sole section has a foot receiving portion located thereon, an extended rearward sole width portion extending outward and laterally from the foot receiving portion, and a rearward sole section length extension projecting rearward from the foot receiving portion. A flexible hinge joins the forward and rearward sole sections together, allowing each of the sole sections to angularly rotate about the flexible hinge independent of each other. A foot retaining thong or footwear retaining straps are mounted on the foot receiving portion for securing a user's foot to the hinged sandal.

    • A mine avoidance and protection device has a frame adapted to be secured to a source of a load, such as the foot of a person. Attached to the frame are at least three support legs each extending from the frame. Each leg has a releasable joint between the leg and the frame. At least one detector is operable to provide a detection capability for each support leg, operable to detect a characteristic of a mine when at least a portion of the support leg is located proximate to the mine. An actuator operable to provide an actuation capability at the joint of each leg, to: constrain the joint to allow a load to be transmitted from the frame, through the joint and the support to the terrain. The actuator can also release the joint such that a load can not be transmitted from the frame through the joint. The joint between the plate and each leg may be a one degree-of-freedom prismatic joint or revolute joint.
