    • A flexible utility stretcher is disclosed for use by paramedics, ambulance operators and other emergency vehicle personnel whose duties include the use of utility stretchers to transport patients to an emergency vehicle. The stretcher comprising the subject invention generally corresponds to the size and shape of utility stretchers presently employed by paramedics and other emergency personnel who use emergency vehicles in connection with their duties. The main features which distinguish the subject invention from prior art utility stretchers are telescoping side frame members and a pivot point at approximately the center of the stretcher separating one portion or head end of the stretcher from the other portion or foot end of the stretcher. Either half may be pivoted through an angle of up to approximately 30.degree.. This pivoting capability allows the stretcher to be maneuvered around sharp turns which would be impossible to accomplish using a stretcher without such pivoting capability. The telescoping side frame members allow the stretcher to be shortened so that it will fit in an elevator or other relatively short space. Another important feature is that uninterrupted cardiopulmonary resuscitation can be performed on a victim being transported in the prone position with the stretcher in both the flex mode and in the shortened mode.

    • A prying blade (42) having an essentially triangular forward portion (43) is secured to a pipe handle (41) at an angle (D) of between about 20.degree.-25.degree.. The triangular forward portion is formed with a rounded or blunt apex region (47) and the two lateral sides (45a, 45b) have notches (44) therein, leaving teeth therebetween. The notches can engage nails for prying up roofing nails together with roofing shingles. The rear portion of the blade (49) is secured to the handle at a point rearwardly of the apex region, for example by welding, to form with the handle a triangular structure. The prying regions of the blades are thus securely supported. The triangular arrangement permits placement of the apex region of the prying bar between nails and removal by the notches in the sides (45a, 45b), or direct prying by the prying bar of a nail caught at the apex region.

    • A single mortise or a plurality of conveniently spaced mortises may be created in a single workpiece. A corresponding single or plurality of tenons may be created in a second workpiece to be joined to the first workpiece. The method of creating the mortises and tenons involves the use of a tool, containing a rigid plate against which a workpiece may be secured, and a template positioned so that the lower face of the template is adjacent to the rigid plate. The template contains a mortise guide, consisting of openings in the template through which a router may be inserted to carve mortises in the workpiece. The template also contains a first tenon guide, against which a router may be guided to carve one half of a tenon or series of tenons in a workpiece. The template also contains a second tenon guide, consisting of a pattern of the same size and shape, and opposite in orientation, to the pattern of the first tenon guide. The template may be moved with respect to the workpiece secured to the rigid plate by means of template slides movable along rods extending from the rigid plate.
