    • A carding machine has a main carding cylinder, an electromotor drivingly connected to the carding cylinder and a control device, including a memory, for controlling the rpm of the carding cyliner. The main carding cylinder has a starting phase during which the main carding cylinder is accelerated to a working rpm and a stopping phase during which the main carding cylinder is decelerated from a working rpm to standstill. The method of operating the carding machine includes the steps of storing in the memory material-specific sets of rpm values for the starting phase and sets of rpm values for the stopping phase; and controlling the rpm of the main carding cylinder in the starting and stopping phases by the control device in accordance with respective rpm values stored in the memory.

    • An apparatus for depositing sliver in a coiler can includes a pair of cooperating pressure rolls; a coiler head rotating about a rotary axis and having a sliver inlet for receiving sliver from the rolls and a sliver outlet situated eccentrically with respect to the rotary axis for discharging sliver from the coiler head; a movable coiler can platform disposed underneath the coiler head for receiving an upwardly open coiler can thereon; and a severing device for severing the sliver at a location downstream of the rolls as viewed in a direction of sliver run. The position of the sliver outlet on its circular path, the position of the platform in its motion path and the running length of sliver are determined. Based on these data rotation of the coiler head is stopped when the sliver outlet is in a position corresponding to a predetermined total sliver quantity in the coiler can less a trailing terminal sliver length portion, the platform is moved in a stopped state of the coiler head such that the coiler can outline is out of vertical alignment with the coiler head, whereby a trailing length portion is deposited in the coiler can and a part of the trailing length portion hangs over a top wall edge of the coiler can.

    • A fiber bale opener includes an upwardly open bale supporting box having a bottom, bale supporting walls together surrounding the bottom for laterally supporting the fiber bale positioned on the bottom; a raising and lowering device connected to the bottom for vertically displacing the bottom and carrier elements for coupling the bottom to the raising and lowering device. The raising and lowering device is situated externally of and horizontally adjacent the box. There is further provided an opening device arranged for a back-and-forth travel above the box to remove fiber material from a top face of the fiber bale positioned on the bottom.

    • An apparatus for supplying sliver-filled coiler cans to and withdrawing empty coiler cans from an intake track of a sliver-consuming fiber processing machine has a plurality of serially-arranged coiler can changers. Each coiler can changer receives at least three coiler cans in a standby position, a working position and a removal position, respectively. The working positions of the coiler can changers form a row having opposite first and second sides. The standby positions and the removal positions of the coiler can changers are all situated at the first side of the row of working positions. Each coiler can charger further has a drive for simultaneously shifting the three coiler cans thereon to move a first of the three cans from the standby position to the working position and a second of the three cans from the working position to the removal position.

    • A conveyor apparatus for advancing articles in a direction of conveyance, including a conveyor track on which the articles are supported; an endless driven conveyor element and an article carrier device including an article carrier element pivotally supported on the endless driven conveyor element. The article carrier element is adapted to engage and thus convey, or be disengaged from an article on the conveyor track. The article carrier element comprises a pivotal lever and a carrier lug formed on the pivotal lever. The contact element is arranged for being depressed by a downstream situated object for causing a rotation of the pivotal lever into the deactivated position.

    • A travelling flats assembly for a carding machine comprises two end rollers; an endless flexible belt trained about the end rollers for a circulating travel, and a plurality of clothed flat bars arranged to be entrained by the endless flexible belt for circulating travel therewith. Each flat bar has a head forming a longitudinal end of the flat bar. There are further provided a stationary slide guide extending between the end rollers along the lower flight of the endless belt and slidably engaging and supporting the flat bars when entrained for travel by the lower flight; and a form-fitting connection for coupling the head of each flat bar to the outwardly-oriented face of the endless belt. The form-fitting connection allows an unobstructed freedom of motion of each flat bar in a direction generally perpendicularly away from and towards the outwardly-oriented belt face, whereby the flat bars are freely removable from and placed in an operative position onto the outwardly-oriented face of the upper flight of the endless belt.
