    • A motion transmitting remote control assembly (10) includes a length adjustment device on its core element (14) which is composed of a slider (20) and a housing (24). A push button lock (34) joins the slider (20) and housing (24) in a length adjusted position. A ball socket receptacle (28) attaches the housing (24) to a control member (30). The slider (20) is biased into the housing (24) by a compression spring (40). A backstop (42) extends rearwardly from the housing (24) to provide a bearing surface for the spring (40). The backstop (42) is slidably connected to the housing (24) by interlocking ears (48) and finger hooks (50). The sliding connection of the backstop (42) to the housing (24) allows the assembly (10) to be quickly converted to a spring-biased type length adjustment device. Alternatively, if a particular application requires omission of the compression spring (40) altogether, the backstop (42) can be omitted as well, and thereby permit operation as an unbiased length adjustment device (10). This is all accomplished using the same tooling, thereby reducing the cost to manufacture the remote control assembly (10) in both spring-biased and unbiased designs.

    • A motion transmitting remote control assembly has a conduit, a core element, and an end fitting molded about one end of the conduit. The end fitting is generally cylindrical and has a plurality of annular locking grooves and is fitted with an O-ring seal. A connector is molded separately from the end fitting and has snap-lock tabs for attachment to a support structure. A receptacle extends into the connector from one end thereof and is accessible from above through a transverse passage. The end fitting is insertable axially into the receptacle through its open end to support the connector for rotation about the end fitting. The O-ring provides a fluid-tight seal between the end fitting and connector. The end fitting is retained in the receptacle by a locking member having U-shaped locking portions that are extendible through the transverse passage into nesting engagement with the locking grooves of the end fitting to secure the end fitting against removal from the receptacle while retaining the relative rotatability of the connector and end fitting.

    • A motion transmitting remote control assembly including a conduit and a motion transmitting core element movably supported by the conduit with the ends thereof extending from the ends of the conduit. Adjustment means is disposed adjacent a first end of the conduit for automatically allowing the conduit to move longitudinally relative thereto in response to a predetermined force being applied thereto. More specifically, the first end of the conduit has a fitting attached thereto with ratchet teeth thereon which coact with ratchet teeth in a support member adapted for attachment to support structure whereby the effective length of the conduit may be adjusted by applying a predetermined force to the core element to in turn adjust the distance the core element extends from the conduit.
