    • A device for suturing a vascular puncture site includes a shaft having a distal end terminating in a pair of resilient prongs, each of which releasably carries a suture anchor attached to one end of a suture. The shaft is installed within a hollow tube for longitudinal translation therein between first and second positions. The tube has a distal end portion and an opening spaced proximally therefrom. When the shaft is in its first position, the prongs are radially closed in the distal end portion. When the shaft is in its second position, the prongs expand radially to an open position through the opening. The proximal end of the shaft is connected to an actuation member in a fitting that is removably connectable to the proximal end of a sheath. The distal end of the tube is introduced into the puncture site through the sheath, with the shaft in its first position. The sheath is partially withdrawn, leaving the distal end of the tube inside the vessel. The shaft is moved to its second position, whereupon the prongs expand to their open position, thus positioning the suture anchors for penetration of the vascular wall tissue by manipulation of the shaft and/or the tube. The shaft is moved back to its first position to retract the prongs back into the tube, leaving the suture anchors secured to the vascular wall tissue. The tube is withdrawn, leaving the sutures trailing from the anchors so as to be secured together.

    • A vascular hemostasis device comprises a shaft coaxially received within a hollow tube, and having a distal end formed with an opposed pair of resilient grasping prongs. The tube has an open distal end that may be situated percutaneously adjacent a vascular puncture site. The shaft and the tube are axially movable with respect to one another, so that the distal end of the shaft may be selectively extended from and partially retracted into the distal end of the tube by means of an actuation member attached to the shaft. When the distal shaft end is in its extended position, the prongs are exposed from the distal end of the tube, and they resiliently expand to an open position. When the distal shaft end is moved to its retracted position, the prongs are partially retracted into the distal end of the tube, radially contracting them to a closed position. In contracting, the prongs grasp and gather tissue adjacent the puncture site to obstruct bleeding therefrom. In a first embodiment, the prongs are on a distal end portion, of resorbable material, that is detachable from the body of the shaft. The tube is a sleeve through which the shaft is slidably disposed, the sleeve being axially received within a trocar that is installed percutaneously to the puncture site. A second preferred embodiment includes a unitary shaft with the prongs at the distal end. The tube in which the shaft is axially disposed is the trocar itself.

    • A device for determining the depth of an incision from the epidermal layer to a puncture in a blood vessel in which the device includes an elongated member which has a lumen extending from a distal end to a proximal end. The distal end of the elongated member is configured to locate the blood vessel. After the device locates the blood vessel, a depth indicator is positioned to mark the depth of the blood vessel. In one embodiment, the elongated member includes a tapering interior surface which can receive a portion of the blood vessel. An extending control member may extend from the device at the distal end wherein the extending control member enters the blood vessel before the device locates the vessel. Fluid from the blood vessel enters the extending member through a vent hole and exits through an opening at the proximal end of the device, thereby providing a user with visual feedback that the device is moving in the desired direction toward the blood vessel.
