    • A pipe reinforcing cage comprises a cage unit and a bell assembly adapted for snap-on connection thereto. The bell assembly has spaced apart coaxial circular rings supported by longitudinal members attached thereto, the longitudinal members comprising the elongated end section of wire forms having an intermediate section and an opposite end section adapted to provide snap-on connection to the circumferential members of the cage unit. Said opposite end section has a tapered portion that contacts the first circumferential member of the cage unit as the bell unit is pushed into contact with said cage unit, causing the wire form to be deflected outward so as to pass toward and around said cage unit until a first loop section of the wire form is opposite said first circumferential member of the cage unit, at which point the wire form springs inward so that the said first circumferential member is positioned within said loop section. This loop section has a tapered portion on its backside. Further pushing of the bell assembly toward the cage unit results in deflection of the wire form again so that said bell assembly moves toward the cage unit until the second circumferential member of the cage unit is positioned opposite said first loop section and the first circumferential member is positioned opposite a second loop section of the wire form. At this point, the wire form springs back to its original orientation, with the circumferential members of the cage unit thus snapped into position within the respective loop sections of the wire form. The second loop section of the wire forms has a flat portion on its backside. The second loop section of the wire forms said flat portion being positioned perpendicular to the directions of movement of said bell assembly relative to the cage unit, i.e. parallel to the orientation of said circumferential members, and adapted to preclude further movement of the wire form around and past the cage unit. The bell assembly is thus held in fixed position with respect to the cage unit. The wire form also serves to act as a spacer to locate the cage unit to which it is attached at a desired distance from the outer shell of the pipe form and at a fixed distance from the pallet of said pipe form.

    • A set of multitooth thread chasers with their teeth shaped and arranged to perform a succession of central roughing cuts of approximately trapezoidal cross section, respectively, and of successively decrescent areas. The chasers are free from any portions which can cause flanking cuts which result in lateral flanges on the resultant chips. The cut produced by each tooth extends close to, but terminates a few thousandths of an inch short of, the flanks of two adjacent threads so that, in the final rough cut thread, a very thin layer of metal remains between the rough cut thread surface and the thread finish lines, and this layer is continuous and uninterrupted along the entire final rough cut thread surface. This layer is removed by a single finishing tooth which makes a single finish cut concurrently cutting a portion of one crest, along the thread trough and flanks and a portion of the adjacent crest, thus cutting over a length of thread cross section equivalent to one complete thread.

    • A pipe threading die head supports a plurality of radially reciprocable die carriers in circumferentially spaced relation about a common axis. A cam plate is oscillatable relative to the head about the axis, and has elongated cam slots which are arranged in end to end spaced relation in a row extending circumferentially of the axis. The slots are connected by cam followers to the tool carriers, respectively. The slots are shaped so that, upon rotation of the cam plate relative to the head in one direction at a uniform rate, they first recede all of the carriers concurrently at the same rate of speed away from the axis part way toward their fully receded positions to produce a full depth taper cut, and then recede the carriers at increased rates, to run out and collapse positions. Beginning with the second slot in the series, each slot, during run-out, recedes its associated carrier at a greater rate than the rate of recession of the immediately preceding carrier. The die head and a coaxial pipe supporting chuck are relatively rotated about the axis while driven relatively toward and away from each other end-wise of the rotational axis. A cam maintains the recessions for taper cutting and die run-out to collapsed position in predetermined fixed relation to the relative advance of the head and pipe held in the chuck.
