摘要： An improved poppet valve system, preferably for use with a paintball marker. The poppet valve system includes a chamber having an inner surface and a piston having a first end and a second end substantially opposite the first end. The first end is positioned for selective contact by a hammer. The piston also includes first and second sealing faces that sealingly engage the inner surface of the chamber when the hammer is not in contact with the piston. A biasing member acts against the second end of the piston. When the hammer contacts the first end of the piston, the hammer overcomes force imparted by the biasing member against the piston in order to disengage the first sealing face from the inner surface of the chamber.

In one embodiment, the light beam from the emitter is pulsed on and off and the signal from the collector is sampled at regular intervals. Variations in the pulsed collector signal are used to detect when the trigger has moved to a pulled position and a released position, and when the collector is swamped with light from another source.

The paintball gun includes a body defining a bore, with the bore being in communication with a valve for selectively releasing compressed gas to fire a paintball. The clamp is adapted to hold the pneumatic ram in the first position until sufficient pressure has built up to cause the pneumatic ram to overcome the clamp, causing the pneumatic ram to strike the poppet valve, thereby releasing the pressurized gas stream and driving the projectile from the gun.
