    • A method for preparing a hop acid mixture having an enantiomeric excess of a (+)-tetrahydro-α-acid is disclosed. In the method, a racemate of a tetrahydro-α-acid is contacted with an amine to form a precipitate having an enantiomeric excess of the (+)-tetrahydro-α-acid. A method for preparing a hop acid is also disclosed. In the method, a racemate of a tetrahydro-α-acid is contacted with an amine to form a precipitate comprising a (+)-tetrahydro-α-acid, and the (+)-tetrahydro-α-acid is isomerized to a hop acid selected from the group consisting of (+)-trans-tetrahydro-iso-α-acids, (−)-cis-tetrahydro-iso-α-acids, and mixtures thereof, and reduced to (+)-trans-hexahydroiso-α-acids and (−)-cis-hexahydroiso-α-acids. An additive for flavoring a malt beverage is also disclosed. The additive includes a bittering agent selected from the group consisting of (+)-trans-tetrahydro-iso-α-acids, (−)-cis-tetrahydro-iso-α-acids, (+)-trans-hexahydroiso-α-acids, (−)-cis-hexahydroiso-α-acids, and mixtures thereof.

    • An insulated and refrigerated beverage transport line provides enhanced temperature control of one or more beverages conveyed through the transport line. A plurality of coolant lines carrying a re-circulated coolant makes contact with the one or more product lines. One or more empty lines, referred to as packers, may be placed between the coolant lines and the product lines to provide a dimensionally stable and tight group of lines that are bundled together. An external insulation is provided over the bundle of lines to further enhance insulation for the beverage being transported through the product lines. At least one dedicated coolant return line may be placed remote from the other lines. The dedicated coolant return line carries the highest temperature coolant found in a beverage transport system. Independent and separate insulation of this dedicated coolant return line prevents inadvertent heat transfer to the one or more product lines.

    • A device and method are provided for dispensing a beverage from a pressurized container. The dispensing device includes an integral source of compressed gas for maintaining the beverage within the container at a desired pressurized state. The dispensing device also includes a regulator for controlling the flow of gas from the compressed gas source to the interior of the container, as well as a pressure relief mechanism that accounts for potential over pressurization of the container. The beverage is selectively dispensed by actuation of a tap handle. Delivery is achieved through the device by a resilient delivery tube, and the delivery tube is either pinched closed or allowed to decompress by the actuation of the tap handle. In another embodiment, a check valve is used to control flow of the beverage in which the tap handle activates a transfer rod to seat and unseat a check element. The device can be manufactured in either a unitary construction or a modular construction. Modular construction provides greater flexibility in testing and replacement of defective components.
