When a loopback path, which inputs a transmission signal outputted from the transmission unit into the reception unit, is formed by the loopback path forming unit, the reception level determination unit detects a signal level of a reception signal received by the reception unit, and determines whether or not the signal level is normal. The reception duration determination unit measures a reception duration of the reception signal in the reception unit, and determines whether or not the reception duration has exceeded a threshold value for abnormality determination.

    • In a cable broadcasting system of the invention capable of setting output or stop of broadcasting-signals from tap output terminals of a tap device in response to a command signal transmitted by a center equipment, when demand for output setting for many tap devices occurs, output setting of the corresponding tap devices can be surely carried out without increasing the load on each power supply device for supplying the tap devices in each district with electricity. When demand for setting tap output of plural tap device occurs, a head-end controller reads output setting data for all the tap devices which are the objects of tap output setting and transmits command signals in order to tap devices at a rate of one tap device per each district covered by a power supply device. The interval of transmission of command signals to one district is controlled to be longer than or equal to the time Δtn necessary for the tap device to which a command signal was previously transmitted to finish tap output setting operation.

    • A navigation system includes a display, a map data storage device, a display control device, an intersection numbering device, a number indication control device, an intersection number input device, and a route determination device. The intersection numbering device prepares intersection numbers with respect to each intersection included in map data stored in the map data storage device. The number indication control device identifies each intersection on a road map displayed on a screen by indicating each displayed intersection with a respective intersection number. A user can specifically designate desired route intersections by inputting the corresponding intersection numbers indicated on the screen. Thus, a desired route can be readily and correctly determined. Since the map data does not originally contain the intersection numbers, the map data is small in volume, and a wide variety of map data, such as those with a different display color or layout, can be used for the navigation system.
