    • A safety ski binding includes an end piece engageable with a ski boot and horizontally pivotable on a body rotatably mounted on a pivot member carried on the surface of a ski for vertical pivotability with respect to the ski. The vertical pivot member includes two diametrically opposed cam faces movable in the longitudinal direction of the ski, each of the cam faces being engaged by a separate piston while being urged by a common spring. The end piece is adapted to move one of the two pistons away from the corresponding cam surface on vertical movement of the end piece. A modified embodiment of the invention utilizes a single piston and the spring controls the release of the ski boot under both side torsion stresses and vertical movements of the ski boot end associated with the binding when they exceed predetermined and adjustable limit values.

    • A safety toe unit for a ski binding comprises a base body (11) which is to be secured to the ski, with a sole holder (13) which holds an inserted ski boot from above and from the sides being upwardly pivotally mounted on the base body about a transverse axis (12). The transverse axis (12) is preferably arranged in the front end region and in particular in the lower region. The sole holder carries two side jaws (17, 18) which are laterally outwardly pivotable about vertical axes (15, 16) disposed on both sides of the central longitudinal axis (14). A release spring (20) is housed in a hollow chamber (19) of the sole holder (13) and extends substantially in the direction of the central longitudinal axis (14). The release spring (20) generates, via a lever and cam track mechanism, a holding force for the inserted ski boot which biases both the side jaws (17, 18) and also the sole holder (13) towards the ski boot holding position. The side jaws ( 17, 18) are acted on, via two control levers which are journalled on the sole holder (13) about respective vertical axes (21, 22) and via a common yoke member (25) by one end of the release spring (20) which is braced at its other end on the sole holder (13). The release spring (20) also acts via the yoke member (25), after overcoming a clearance (26) which lies within the scope of different sole thicknesses of the ski boots to be inserted, on a hold-down cam (27) which is displaceably journalled in the sole holder (13) in the direction of the central longitudinal axis (14). This hold-down cam cooperates with a cam track (28) on the base body (11) which rises obliquely from the rear to the front.

    • A steplessly variable transmission is described in which a driving element and a driven element are adjustable eccentrically to one another and are coupled via pivotal levers which are journalled on one element and can be brought into force transmitting clamping engagement with the other element via coupling shoes. In the context of this series connection the two change speed units are inversely combined with an eccentric positioning device being provided which either jointly actuates the members with the ring tracks associated with the coupling elements or the members with the coupling elements. The force transmitting zones of engagement of the two units are angularly displaced relative to one another and the eccentricities of the two units and also the lever arms associated with the coupling elements can be so selected that ideal transmission ratios result which are largely free of fluctuations.

    • A safety ski binding comprises a releasable front jaw (11) engaging one end of the ski boot (15) and a heel jaw (12) which engages a second end of the ski boot (15). A heel jaw housing (16) is mounted longitudinally displaceably in longitudinal guides (13) affixed to the ski. Preferably, there is at least some vertical and horizontal play between heel jaw housing (16) and longitudinal guides (13). Heel jaw housing (16) is urged by at least one thrust spring (14) against the ski boot (15) which bears on the one side on heel jaw housing (16) and on the other side on a longitudinally adjustable lock member (18) which is also affixed to the ski. Between the end of the thrust spring (14) bearing on the lock member (18) and the lock member (18), a force-resolving means (20), which resolves a part of the longitudinal force (F) of the thrust spring (14) into two opposite spreading forces (S), is disposed. Spreading forces (S) act on lock member (18) in the direction of the ski (21) and on heel jaw housing (16) in the direction away from the ski.

A polymer impregnated flexible foam sheath 20 is laid around foam core 19, flexible foam core 22 or 37 and connection spigots 21. Subsequently, various polymer impregnated fiber reinforced sleeves 15, 16, 17, 18 are laid around the foam sleeve 20. The upper parts of the fork arms 13 are brought together to form a fork head 12 having a single steering spigot connection part 12a and fork arm transition parts 12b. Connection part 12a is introduced at least substantially into the lower end of the steering spigot 11. A pressure piston is inserted into the blank and, in a heatable mold, the blank is molded into its final shape upon application of bot heat and pressure, and then cured.
