    • A vanity mirror for mounting in a vehicle sun visor including a housing and an external connector provided in the sun visor, a lamp section including a tubular electric lamp provided in a recess formed in the housing and an internal connector provided in the housing. Two contact members for supporting the bases on both sides of the electric lamp are provided and the end of one extremity of these contact members are formed into electric lamp supporting portions. The other end of at least one of these contact members is made into a connecting piece for connecting the external connector thereto. Also, the internal connector is formed by placing a connecting piece connected to the other end of the other contact member in parallel with the connecting piece of the first contact. With this construction use of vehicle as a ground is avoided so that the supporting structure of the mirror with the lamp may be formed of a nonmetallic lightweight material. Also, with the internal connector, complex wiring and body manufacture are avoided, simplifying the work required to mount the mirror with the lamp to the vehicle body.

The headlamp comprises a concave light reflector which includes upper and lower reflector parts, each part constituting a part of an ellipsoidal light reflecting surface and having first and second focuses, the upper and lower reflector parts having a common optical axis and having the second focuses located on a common position, the first focus of the upper reflector part being in front of that of the lower reflector part; a first light source positioned at the first focus of the upper reflector part; a second light source positioned at the first focus of the lower reflector part; a shade plate positioned in front of the first and second light sources; and a converging lens arranged in front of the shade plate. The shade plate is arranged flat with respect to the optical axis and arranged in parallel with the optical axis having a front edge thereof positioned just behind the second focus, and the lens has its focus located at the front edge of the shade plate.

    • A snap-on connector is provided for readily mounting and dismounting a light bulb of the kind having a flange on its base, to and from a lamp housing in a vehicular headlamp assembly or similar lighting devices. The lamp housing has a mounting tube extending rearwardly therefrom and terminating in a bulb entrance end. Mounted on the bulb entrance end of the mounting tube in locking engagement therewith, the snap-on connector of substantially annular or tubular shape has a set of retainer lips extending radially inwardly from its end away from the lamp housing. Each retainer lip defines a space for receiving a lug on the flange of the light bulb between itself and the bulb entrance end of the mounting tube. The lugs can be slid into these spaces and locked in position by first inserting the light bulb in the bulb entrance end of the mounting tube via the snap-on connector and then by turning the light bulb in a prescribed direction relative to the mounting tube.

    • A plastic lamp housing is molded in one piece with two cantilevers extending forwardly from its rear wall for supporting a metal made reflector and a light bulb out of direct contact with all the inside surfaces of the lamp housing. The reflector thermally covers at least the top and bottom and rear sides of the light source for the reduction of heat transmission to the lamp housing. Depending from the lamp housing, a lamp standard has a hollow extending therethrough in communication with the interior of the lamp housing through a heat release opening formed in the bottom of the lamp housing. The lamp standard is for use in mounting the lamp on a hollow structural part of a motor vehicle in the vicinity of its rear window. Therefore, by creasing an opening in the hollow vehicle part, the heated air within the lamp housing can be vented into the hollow lamp standard and thence into the hollow vehicle part, instead of into the interior of the vehicle body.

    • A lamp assembly is disclosed as adapted for use as a supplemental high mounted stop lamp to be installed just interiorly of a steeply slanting rear window of a motor vehicle. A lamp housing has a light source disposed therein, and two generally planar lens members are mounted at the open front end of the lamp housing in parallel spaced relation to each other. The inner lens member is configured to provide a Fresnel lens effective to render the light rays from the source parallel to the principal axis of the lamp assembly, thereby superseding the paraboloidal reflector heretofore employed to the same end. The outer lens member has a plurality of prismatic lens segments for internally reflecting the parallel rays from the inner lens member in a predetermined direction at a considerable angle to the lamp assembly axis. Preferably, the two lens members are further so molded as to impart both lateral and vertical divergence to the light beam emitted by the lamp assembly.

    • A vehicular lamp assembly such as a combined fog and cornering lamp has a lamp cover mounted to its housing for pivotal movement between an open position, where the lamp cover uncovers the front lens of the lamp housing, and a closed position where the lamp cover covers the front lens. For pivoting the lamp cover between the open and closed positions a lamp cover drive mechanism comprises a drive shaft protruding from the lamp housing and coupled directly to the lamp cover. The drive shaft is driven by a reversible electric drive motor via a torque limiter which permits the motor to rotate independently of the drive shaft upon jamming of the lamp cover, as by being clogged with snow. Also included is an electric control circuit which controls the drive motor for opening and closing the lamp cover in response to the actuation and deactuation of a hand switch within easy reach of the vehicle driver. The control circuit further turns on the light source of the lamp assembly only when the lamp cover is opened. The lamp cover is further provided with a two way biasing mechanism which makes it unnecessary to hold the drive motor energized throughout the travel of the lamp cover between the open and closed positions.
