    • A remote recording and editing system for use with a transmitter of broadcast programs, including both television and radio programs, provides for the monitoring of the broadcast transmissions of the transmitter and the generation of recording and editing command signals. The command signals are broadcast from a central station to receiving stations, such as homes having television sets, to permit editing of the broadcast transmissions during the presentation of a program on home television sets and during recording of the program. The television receiver, as well as the recording apparatus, is provided with an inhibiting circuit, responsive to the command signals, for accomplishing the editing by the deletion of unwanted material. The circuits inhibit the presentation of the program as well as the recording of the program. A person in the central station monitors the television program and activates a generator of the command signals to provide for the selective recording and editing of the programs. Individual programs can be selected for recording and/or editing and specific types of material can be deleted during the editing.

    • A system and method for evaluating responses to broadcast programs, such as television programs, includes an instructional signal modulated onto a voice signal transmitted concurrently with the television program, or time-multiplexed with a television. At each of a plurality of remote receiving stations, one or more members of a remote audience has the opportunity to respond to a situation presented in the television program by entering a response on a keyboard. The system includes, at each remote receiving station, a memory responsive to the instructional signal for storing desired responses, and a comparison circuit for comparing responses entered at the keyboard with those stored in the memory. Also provided is electronic circuitry for scoring the responses in accordance with commands from the instructional signal, and a recording device for providing a permanent record of the audience score at each of the remote receiving stations. Scoring is performed at differing levels of difficulty, set by a host or by a contestant, with credit being given also to the length of time required for response and the mode of response such as by use of a key word or phrase.

    • Devices are disclosed for displaying three-dimensional objects intended to be centripetally viewed, such as flower arrangements, and for individually and uniformly illuminating a plurality of grouped flowers and the like in penetrating fashion. The devices comprise a watertight upper cavity containing flowers in separated, side-by-side relationship and a lower cavity containing the light source. The cavities are separated by a transparent shelf, the light traveling upwardly into the vase-like upper cavity, between and around the stems of most of the flowers so as to illuminate the inner as well as outer reaches of the foliage of the flowers. The light source is positioned below and in close proximity to the flowers, thus reducing scattering of light, power consumption and glare.
