    • There is provided a device for sawing logs to a predetermined length which includes a log lead-in support member, a log support frame, a log cutting station and a log collection deck. The log support frame includes a front end, a rear end, opposite sides and supports a conveyor. An upwardly inclined conveyor moves a log lengthwise through the support frame to the log cutting station which includes a stop gate section, a sawing section, and a debris discharge conveyor. The stop gate section is positioned between the conveyor and the sawing section to set the log for proper timing into the cutting station and to align the butts when a plurality of logs is cut at the same time. A cutting station positioned at the front end of said support frame comprising a housing and a chain saw having a cutting bar on said support frame pivotally mounted to rotate 360.degree., whereby when one log is cut to its predetermined length the conveyor automatically moves a further section of the uncut log to a cutting position as the cutting bar makes its rotation.

    • A cutter head assembly for delimbing trees includes two pairs of opposing curved limb-stripping levers including curved cutting blades. The limb-stripping levers of each pair are pivotably movable toward and away from each other for engaging and encircling the trunk of a tree. One pair of levers is positioned and configured for engaging and removing limbs from opposite side and lower portions of a tree trunk being drawn longitudinally through the cutter head assembly. The other pair of levers is positioned and configured for engaging and removing limbs from opposite side and upper portions of a tree trunk. The limb-stripping levers include angled deflecting members attached to the cutting blades for deflecting cut pieces of a tree outwardly away from the cutting blades.

    • A tree delimbing device having a self-aligning cutter head for delimbing a tree stem which is mounted on a frame by a rotational and pivotal support. A substantially inelastic flexible member connects the cutter head to the frame to limit movement of the cutter head. A medial portion of the flexible member is connected to a fluid cylinder so as to urge the cutter head toward a centered position. An accumulator may be provided for regulating the pressure of the fluid in the cylinder. The positioning of the fluid cylinder may be adjustable. A tree stem diameter measuring device having a sliding position indicator may also be provided. A tree stem detector may also be included to sense the presence of a tree stem placed within the cutter head for automatically closing and opening the blades around the stem. A removable mount for the cutter head is also included.

    • The present cutter head assembly includes guide lever members engageable with the trunk of the tree so that the curved cutting and limb stripping blades are maintained parallel with the longitudinal axis of the tree as the tree is pulled through the cutter head assembly by the grapple of a knuckle boom loader or the like. The cutter head assembly includes a rectangular support frame with a pair of curved cutting and limb stripping blades pivotally supported for movement toward and away from each other and adjacent one end of the rectangular support frame. The stripping blades define a tree encircling cutting opening therebetween for longitudinal movement of the tree in one direction through the cutting opening. A pair of curved guide levers is pivotally supported for movement toward and away from each other and adjacent the other end of the rectangular support frame. The rectangular support frame is supported for a limited amount of pivotal movement in both vertical and horizontal planes so that the support frame and the curved stripping blades and guide levers are automatically maintained in alignment with the tree trunk so that the axial alignment of the cutter head is not dependent upon the skill of the operator of the knuckle boom loader.

    • Improved pivotal support means is provided for supporting the rectangular support frame of the self-aligning cutter head assembly for pivotal movement in both the vertical and horizontal planes. The improved pivotal support insures that the limb stripping blades and the guide means carried by the rectangular support frame are maintained in parallel alignment with the longitudinal axis of the tree trunk as the tree trunk is being pulled through the tree delimbing device. The rectangular support frame is supported for pivotal movement in the vertical plane and in a cradled relationship on the upper ends of the vertical legs of a support yoke extending beneath the rectangular support frame. The rectangular support frame is supported for movement in the horizontal plane by a pivot extending through the horizontal medial portion of the yoke member and beneath the rectangular support frame.

    • A device for delimbing trees includes two pairs of opposing curved limb-stripping levers including curved cutting blades for engaging and encircling the trunk of a tree to remove limbs therefrom, and a bottom cutting blade positioned to remove limbs from a lower portion of the tree. The bottom cutting blade is movably mounted so as to move in response to forces imposed on the bottom cutting blade by a tree being pulled through the device. In one embodiment, the bottom cutting blade is vertically movable and is biased upward by a spring device. In another embodiment, the bottom cutting blade is pivotally mounted so as to be pivotable forward and rearward, and an impact tool is arranged to periodically transmit impact forces to the bottom cutting blade in a forward direction so as to drive the blade through a limb.
