    • A sand fracturing machine for breaking coarse grain of sand into smaller grains. The machine includes an open topped container having a bottom wall with circular openings therethrough. Rods of steel or other suitably hard material are located in the box and are supported by the bottom wall. Sand containing grains of many different sieve sizes is introduced into the container through its open top which falls on top of the rods. A vibration mechanism connected to the container is operative to vibrate the container in a substantially vertical direction. The sand sifts downwardly between the vibrating rods and out through the openings in the bottom wall of the container. As the larger grains pass between the vibrating rods, however, they are fractured by the rods to create smaller mid-size grains while the smallest grains sift between the rods unaffected. Consequently, the machine is operative to produce a sand aggregate with a different grain size distribution from that of the sand put into it which principally has a greater percentage of mid-size grains than found in the sand placed into the machine.

    • A reeved bucket assembly for use in a material handling apparatus is disclosed. The assembly includes a clamshell-type bucket to which is secured hold cables fixed to diagonally opposite end portions of the top region of the bucket. The hold cables are reeved over sheaves supported by an elongated mounting arm secured at an acute angle to the underside of a main trolley. The trolley is provided with mounting means for arranging it on a boom member or the like for longitudinal movement therealong. The acute angle of the mounting arm, the longitudinal axis of which extends laterally of the trolley, is measured from the front side thereof which faces the trolley, the rear side of the arm facing the bucket. Support means are provided for supporting the mounting arm to the trolley for selective rotation about the transverse axis thereof. The hold sheaves are supported by frames which are rotatable with respect to the mounting arm about axes extending laterally, with respect to the arm. The mounting arm, the means for rotatably supporting the arm on the trolley, and the sheave carrying frames are constructed and arranged such that when the mounting arm is rotated the bucket will rotate without tilting while the hold sheaves remain in fixed planes with respect to the bucket. Close sheaves supported by the mounting arm and close cables reeved over the sheaves and connected directly to the bucket are also provided.

    • A bulk material handler is supported by a pivotable truck and two independently steerable and independently driven main wheels which stradle a loader equipped boom. For movement in a direction generally parallel to the boom, the main wheels are turned in synchronism in parallel planes. For slewing, the main wheels are turned in opposite directions until their rolling axes intersect the turning axis of the truck. For linear movement transverse to the boom, the main wheels are turned until their rolling axes are parallel to the boom. The vertically rotatable boom is pivoted at a point above the turning axis of the truck.

    • There is shown a mobile material handling structure, such as a bucket wheel stacker and reclaimer having a carriage on which is a turntable structure comprising the turntable itself, with a mast, a load boom pivoted to swing in a vertical arc, and a counterweight at the end of a pivoted strut that extends out beyond the turntable in a direction diametrically opposite the load boom. A cable, connected with the counterweight, passes over the mast and is attached to the boom, so that as the boom swings up or down from a level position, the pivoted strut with its counterweight swings in an opposite direction from a level position. The center of mass of the counterweight is roughly about as far from the center of rotation of the table as the center of mass of the load boom so that the moment arms through which the two masses are effective to counterbalance each other are approximately equal at all times.

    • An apparatus for relining metallurgical furnace tap-holes is disclosed. The apparatus is adapted to be inserted in a furnace tap-hole and includes a tubular housing, a supply hopper communicating with the housing for introducing a lining material into the housing and a screw conveyor for advancing the lining material from the hopper forwardly through the housing. The forward end of the housing is closed by a nose piece and the housing has openings around its periphery to the rear of the nose piece. A discharge member is provided within the housing between the forward end of the screw conveyor and the nose piece and generally in the transverse plane of the openings for forcing material radially through the openings. Means are provided for driving the screw conveyor and simultaneously imparting a vibratory motion to the housing so that as lining material is discharged through the openings, the housing''s outer wall compacts the lining material against the inner wall of the taphole.
