    • A telescopic sight (10) for automatically compensating for bullet trajectory deviations is disclosed. The sight (10) includes a user input (20) and an electronic port (22) for communicating ballistic, calibration and user preference information to the sight (10). The sight (10) further includes a ranger finder (24) and an array of ambient condition sensors (26,28,30,32,34,36) for automatically generating target distance information and ambient condition information. A processor (38) uses the ballistic, calibration, user preference, distance and ambient condition information to calculate bullet trajectory deviation compensation information. The processor (38) presents the compensation to the user in the form of a compensation reticle (48) or a compensation value (50).

    • An apparatus (10) and method for allowing a moving user to automatically determine and store locations (11) over an extended period of time, to display the series of such locations (11), and to actively assist in returning to an earlier location. The apparatus (10) includes an antenna (16) for facilitating satellite lock, a fastening mechanism (18) for positioning the antenna (10) for best reception, and a satellite lock indicator (20) for communicating loss of satellite lock. The apparatus (10) also includes a timer (26) for measuring an interval during which the apparatus (10) is in a power-conserving sleep mode, and after which the user's current location is automatically determined. Active assistance in returning to an earlier location, either by traveling back along the path earlier traveled or by traveling along a more direct route, is accomplished by warning the user whenever the user's course deviates from the path or route.

    • A talking telescope (10) capable of conveying information to a user both audibly and visually. The telescope (10) may also find and track a specified celestial body (SCB). The telescope (10) broadly comprises an optical telescopic tube (12) for magnifying distant objects, a base (14) for supporting the telescope, a cradle (16) for securing the tube (12) to the base (14), a drive mechanism (18) for moving the tube (12) with respect to the base (14), and a controller (20) for allowing the user to interact with the telescope (10). The controller (20) includes a database to store information relating to a plurality of celestial bodies and a processor (24) to access the information in the database relating to the SCB. The controller (20) also preferably includes a speaker (28) to audibly convey the information and a display (30) to visually convey the information.

    • An apparatus (10) and method for allowing a moving user to automatically periodically determine and store his or her own geographic locations over an extended period of time, and to display the series of such locations (11) as an indication of the user's path of travel. The apparatus (10) accomplishes these functions with features for conserving power and for communicating loss of the satellite lock necessary to determine location. More specifically, the apparatus (10) includes an antenna (16) for facilitating the satellite lock, a fastening mechanism (18) for positioning the antenna (10) for best reception, and a satellite lock indicator (20) for noticeably communicating loss of the satellite lock. The apparatus (10) also includes a timer (26) for measuring a preestablished interval during which time the apparatus (10) is in a power-conserving sleep mode, and after which time the current location is automatically determined.
