    • A composition for an electric cable is described. The composition is characterized in that it comprises an ethylene plastic and a compound of the general formula (I) ##STR1## where n.gtoreq.1,R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, which are the same or different, designate hydrogen or the residue of a carboxylic acid with 8-24 carbon atoms,with the proviso that there are at least two free OH groups and at least one residue of a carboxylic acid with 8-24 carbon atoms in the molecule. Preferably, n=3-12 and R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 designate hydrogen or stearoyl and the compound of formula (I) is present in an amount of 0.05-2% by weight of the composition. The compound of formula (I) may be combined with other additives, such as polyethylene glycols. The composition may be used as an insulating layer or a semiconductive layer in an electric cable.

    • The present invention concerns prepolymerized catalyst composition for polymerization of .alpha.-olefins, a process for the preparation thereof and a process for polymerization of .alpha.-olefins. According to the polymerization process a procatalyst composition containing a transition metal is prepolymerized with a monomer in order to produce a prepolymerized Ziegler-Natta type catalyst composition and said catalyst composition is contacted with an alpha-olefin monomer, in particular with ethylene or propylene, for preparing a polymer. According to the invention the procatalyst composition is preferably prepolymerized in a medium which is inert to the catalyst components, the viscosity of the medium being so high that the catalyst does not substantially settle in this medium. Because the catalyst composition according to the invention does not have to be dried before being fed into the medium, its activity is high before and during polymerization.

    • The invention concerns a high strength polyethylene fibre, which is prepared by melt spinning polyethylene having a high density through a spinnerette, by cooling the fibre coming out from the spinnerette and by stretching the fibre obtained at 50.degree.-150.degree. C.
