    • A baffle and casing structure for rotary worm compressionexpansion machines of the type having a rotor with oppositely facing working screws and a pair of pinion wheels cooperating with each such screw, the rotor being supported concentrically in a two-part casing having interior baffles to increase the volume of the working chamber defined by the worm threads, pinion wheels and casing interior. The pinion wheels are provided with teeth which engage not less than two nor more than three threads of the respective worms thereby to enable assembly of the pinion wheels through pockets accessible from the casing exterior.

    • Liquid from the condenser 34 l is supplied to the innerspace of the motor through pipe 11 and flashes therein while cooling the motor. The resulting gas is sent through pipe 10 to an economizer hole 9 of the compressor. At full load, hole 9 is at a higher pressure than the intake of the compressor. At part load, hole 9 is at a pressure close to the intake pressure. A piston 12 is subjected on one face to the economizer hole pressure and on the other face to the intake pressure. When both pressures tend to be equal, piston 12 travels to shoulder 16 and establishes therewith a pressure drop elevating the pressure in motor housing 7, thereby to maintain in motor housing 7 a pressure able to urge liquid from the motor casing to the evaporator 37 through pipe 38.

    • A machine for compressing or expanding fluids in which a globoidal worm, having a plurality of threads with crests circumscribed by a surface generated by a rectilinear line and in meshing engagement with at least one toothed pinion, cooperates with a casing having at least one low pressure port and at least one high pressure port located in the immediate vicinity of the pinion. Each of the pinion teeth is provided with two substantially rectilinear flanks, the flank located on the side of the pinion nearest the low pressure port when one tooth is engaged in the worm being longer than the flank of the same tooth which is located nearest the high pressure port.
