    • Circumferentially spaced bosses concentrically position a male tube end within a female tube end. The bosses have a preferred shape which permits molten brazing material to flow evenly between the tubes, ensuring a void-free joint. The bosses provide a relief clearance at the mouth of the male tube to allow the formation of a continuous annular band of brazing material at this end. Stop tapers on the bosses allow the female tube to be pressed onto the male tube for stability prior to brazing. The bosses also limit the overlap of the two tubes to a maximum distance, ensuring adequate heat conduction to the innermost portion of the male tube. Spacers, integral with the bosses, form an axial gap between the tubes into which the brazing rod more readily melts.

    • A refrigerator door assembly having a door mounting cabinet frame which has a thermally efficient composite design comprising a non-metallic pultrusion-formed structural frame member and an outer metallic trim panel mountable on the structural frame member for providing the desired finished appearance, which may be made consistent with conventional commercial refrigerator and freezer door assemblies. The door mounting frame includes a mullion which also includes a pultrusion formed non-metallic structural element. A rigid plastic molding assembly encompasses the rear and sides of the structural frame members and define air insulating spaces about the frame members. The pultrusion formed frame members permit thermal insulated mounting of metallic accessories by ultrasonic welding methods.

    • A refrigerator door assembly having a door mounting frame with at least one mullion that includes a metallic structural frame member and a magnetically attractable sealing plate mounted forwardly on the mullion for defining a stop and sealing surface for the swinging ends of pivotably mounted doors. The mullion includes an insulating and sealing plate retaining assembly which supports the sealing plate in thermally isolated relation to the structural member and which defines an air insulating space completely about the structural frame member. The illustrated insulating and sealing plate retaining assembly includes a plastic channel shaped member having a front wall disposed in closely adjacent relation to a front side of the structural frame member and side walls extending in rearwardly directed fashion therefrom. A cover plate is releasably engagable with the rearwardly extending side walls for completely encapsulating the structural frame member. The magnetically attractable sealing plate is supported by the channel shaped plastic member in forwardly spaced relation to the structural frame member. Various metallic accessory items are supportable on the mullion in substantially thermally isolated relation to the structural frame member.

    • One or more glass panel refrigerator doors are swingably mounted in a mounting frame. Each door is mounted so that it can be reversed between left- and right-hand swing. This is accomplished by providing upper and lower hinge pins rotatably mounted in the door, the pins having noncircular elements projecting from the door. A torsion spring is mounted in the door and is connected between one of the hinge pins and an adjusting member for regulating the initial stress in the spring. The noncircular elements of the hinge pins are engageable with socket members on the mounting frame. The socket members have noncircular openings and are movable between left- and right-hand positions on the mounting frame. Each door is reversed by removing the door, moving the socket elements to the opposite positions, inverting the door, and reinserting it into the frame. Each adjusting member is hidden when the door is closed, but is accessible when the door is open through a rearwardly facing recess formed in the door along the hinge axis. The recess is also employed to receive the connecting cord for the door heater. The cord is fitted with a plug which is positioned just behind the recess. To provide for reversal of the door, receptacles capable of accommodating leftor right-hand doors are mounted on the mounting frame to receive the plug in the left- and right-hand positions of the door.

    • A device for automatically holding a refrigerator door releasably in a fully open position relative to a refrigerated display cabinet. The device includes an elongated spring arm connected pivotally to a frame member of the cabinet and formed with an elongated slot which receives a pin connected to a frame member of the door. The pin slides in the slot and causes the arm to pivot outwardly as the door is swung open. As the door approaches its fully open position, the pin cams past detent lugs in the slot and then engages the lugs to prevent the door from closing unless the door is swung closed with sufficient force to cause the pin to cam reversely past the detent lugs.
