    • An improvement in a continuous rolling mill for forming flat steel strip into tubing. The improvement is a strip preparation station including upper and lower composite roller systems. Each system has end rollers which define a pass path for the strip. The lower end rollers have a support surface for engaging the lower surface of the strip and an outer pocket with a lower transition surface extending between the support surface and the outer pocket. Each of the upper end rollers has an engagement surface for contacting the upper strip surface and an outer flange which terminates below the level of the support surface and extends into the pocket. Each upper end roller has a bevelled working surface adjoining the engagement surface and overlying at least a portion of the transition surface and a portion of the support surface for cold working the irregularities of the strip. A method of preparing a strip for formation into a tube in a continuous rolling mill is also disclosed.

    • A coupling for connecting tubular conduits and the like in end-to-end relation, the connected ends of the conduits having identical external threads formed thereon. The coupling includes inner and outer coupling elements, the inner of which is longitudinally moveable within an internal bore in the outer and both of which have threaded internal bores which enable both elements to be threaded onto either of the conduit ends to a position enabling alignment of the conduits by relative lateral movement therebetween after which the outer coupling element may be threaded onto the other of the conduits so as to draw the adjacent ends of the conduits into aligned abutting relation. In an alternative embodiment, the inner coupling element may be moved longitudinally onto the threaded end of the conduit without requiring threading thereon, after which the inner coupling element may be removed by unthreading. In both embodiments, the coupling may be removed from the coupled conduits without damaging the coupling or conduits, thereby enabling salvaging and reuse.

    • A tube mill which employs circular rotating electrodes for welding the edge seam along with means within the continuous tube for rolling the welded seam. An arm extends into the tube and carriers a rotating roller that contacts the seam just downstream from the point where welding occurs. A connector affixed to the arm extends upward through the region between the converging edges of the strip to a pivot pin. An air cylinder is arranged to rock the arm about the pivot pin and force the roller upward against the undersurface of the hot seam close to the circular welding electrodes to produce a smooth surface. The upper section of the arm carries a pair of rotatable discs of different thicknesses which guide the converging edges of the strip into proper position for welding. The arm carries a pipe which directs fluid past the roller to blow weld spatter downstream while simultaneously cooling the roller. Preferably, an inert gas flow is maintained past the roller at a velocity between 500 and 3000 feet per second.

    • A clamp is disclosed for attaching a solar panel to a grid system. The clamp includes an upper end clamp, a clamp plate, a channel nut; and a fastener connecting the clamp, the clamp plate and the nut. A head of the fastener engages the upper end clamp and a threaded end of the fastener engages a hole in the channel nut so that rotation of the fastener fixes the clamp to a structural member. Rotation of the fastener also fixes a solar panel to the structural member. The upper end clamp has a side surface, and the clamp plate has a side surface. The side surfaces are in the same plane to enable them both to engage a side surface of the solar panel. The upper end clamp includes a protruding lip for engaging a top surface of a solar panel. Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.
