    • There is provided a method of working a plain bearing and a working apparatus of the plain bearing, which make it easy to perform working by forming a plurality of inclined surfaces of different angles in portions on both sides of the inner peripheral surface of the bearing alloy metal of the plain bearing in the axial direction thereof. In the working method and apparatus, a working holder 18 is provided which has a groove 20 extending on the inner peripheral surface in the peripheral direction and portions on both sides of the groove in the transverse direction formed in step-like shape, a half bearing 11 is housed in the working holder 18, and both ends of the half bearing 11 in the peripheral direction are pressed by use of pressing means 24. Then, the half bearing undergoes plastic deformation so as to be fitted into the groove and both sides of the half bearing in the axial direction thereof come into abutment with the edges 22, 23 of the step-like portions and are deformed in a polygonal line form. In this state, both ends of the half bearing 11 in the axial direction thereof are cut along one cylindrical surface by use of a broach 19. As a result, two inclined surfaces of different angles are continuously formed in the portions of both sides of the bearing alloy metal 13 of the half bearing in the axial direction thereof.

    • Disclosed is a plain bearing comprising a back metal, a bearing alloy layer provided on the inner surface of the back metal, an intermediate layer provided on the bearing alloy layer and an overlay provided on the intermediate layer. The bearing alloy layer has a textured uneven inner surface, comprising a number of protrusions, which has been formed by etching of the inner surface provided with a mask. A feature and a pattern of the uneven surface can be optionally and accurately formed by designing appropriately the mask. For example, the protrusions may be a form of square, circle or lozenge cross-section, or a ridge extending in an optional direction, e.g. circumferentially, perpendicularly or obliquely to the circumference. After the overlay considerably wears, there will appear a surface state in which the bearing alloy layer, the intermediate layer and the residual soft overlay in the etched recess coexist.

    • In order to enhance the fatigue resistance and the anti-seizure property while maintaining the. embeddability, there is provided a plain bearing comprising a bearing alloy layer, an intermediate layer and an overlay layer which are formed on the inner surface of a back metal in this order. The inner surface of the bearing alloy layer is provided with a recess groove “a” extending in the circumferential direction, so that the inner surface is made into a textured uneven condition. The recess groove “a” has a bent portion which is bent relative to the circumferential direction, so that a foreign substance X entering between a mating shaft and the plain bearing is moved in the circumferential direction owing to the rotation of the shaft, the foreign substance X runs against a side edge of the recess groove “a” and moves along the side edge, thereby the embedding of the foreign substance into the overlay layer is promoted. If the foreign substance fails to be adequately embedded, the foreign substance leaves the side edge again at the bent portion.

    • There is provided a plain bearing in which 0.3 to 25 vol. % of hard particles, having a mean particle diameter of not more than 1.5 &mgr;m, are dispersed in a main load portion of the overlay, so that the main load portion is formed into a hard region harder than the other portion of the overlay. With this construction, the main load portion is enhanced in wear resistance while the other portion is enhanced in foreign matter embeddability. Therefore, there is provided the plain bearing which is less liable to undergo seizure due to abnormal wear even if solid foreign matter are included into lubricating oil, thus exhibiting excellent wear resistance and foreign matter embeddability.
