The pair of magnetic meshing rings (151) and the pair of meshing tooth rows (25) are situated to be movable relative to each other between a facing position where the pair of magnetic meshing teeth (151b) and the pair of meshing teeth (25a) are positioned to face each other to cause the magnet member (152) to create a magnetic circuit between the magnetic meshing teeth (151b) and the meshing teeth (25a) and a not-facing position where the magnetic meshing teeth (151b) and the meshing teeth (25a) are positioned not to face each other.

    • A power transmission device (10) comprises a rotatable rotary part (1, 2) to which a rotational drive force is transmitted from a drive source and a power transmission shut-off member (3) that shuts off transmission of an excessive torque between the rotary part and a rotating shaft (4) of a device to be driven. The power transmission shut-off member is threadedly coupled to the rotating shaft and can rotate with the rotating shaft. The rotary part is installed so as to be sandwiched between the power transmission shut-off member and the rotating shaft. A disc spring (8), installed between the power transmission shut-off member and the rotary part, is further provided. A caulked part (204a) for preventing a part of the power transmission shut-off member from dropping is provided on the front end side of the rotating shaft.

    • An armature is magnetically attracted to and is coupled with a rotor against an urging force of a resilient member by a magnetic attractive force of the rotor when a permanent magnet is placed into a first position. When the armature is coupled with the rotor, a rotational drive force of an internal combustion engine transmitted to the rotor is transmitted to a refrigerant compressor connected to the armature to rotate the refrigerant compressor. The armature is urged away from and is decoupled from the rotor by the urging force of the resilient member when the permanent magnet is placed into a second position.

    • A screw engagement portion between a pulley and a shaft is provided with a thread in a direction to increase the tightening torque when the pulley is driven. A breakable part broken by the axial tension produced when the tightening torque acting on the screw engagement portion is above a predetermined value, is also provided. The stress to break the breakable part is mainly a tensile stress. The tensile stress is substantially uniformly distributed in a cross section and, hence, the stress distribution of the breakable part can be relatively precisely predicted and analyzed. Consequently, the necessity of determining aspects of the breakable part, such as dimension, material, and the like, by trial and error is reduced. The breakable part can be broken without being subject to fatigue fracture.

    • A power transmission apparatus comprising a pulley 1 and a hub 2 is disclosed. The hub 2 includes an inner hub 21 fixed on a rotary shaft 4 and an elastic member 23 coupled over a joint length L to the outer periphery of the inner hub 21. Elastic member 23 includes a hub-side engaging portion having a series of protrusions arranged in a ring and a cylindrical portion connecting the hub-side engaging portion and the inner hub. Pulley 1 has a pulley-side engaging portion having a series of depressions fitted on the hub-side engaging portion. The engagement between hub-side engaging portion 235 and pulley-side engaging portion 14 forms a torque transmission structure of hub 2 and pulley 1. An axial length TL of a torque transmission surface TS formed by hub-side engaging portion 235 and pulley-side engaging portion 14 in contact with each other is larger than joint length L between the cylindrical portion and inner hub 21. Axial length TL, when projected in the radial direction, is partially overlapped with joint length L.
