    • There is disclosed herein a turn signal system for vehicles wherein the turn signal is automatically cancelled upon the steering device of the vehicle being returned to a predetermined position. The system is particularly applicable to motorcycles. The system includes a sensor which generates a signal representing a steering angle corresponding to the operation of the steering device, a noise eliminating circuit which receives the sensor signal and eliminates noises included in this signal as a function of running speed of the vehicle. A peak hold circuit receives the output signal from the noise eliminating circuit and holds the peak value of the signal, and a comparator receives the output signal of the noise eliminating circuit as well as the output of the peak hold circuit, and compares these signals to generate a turn-signal cancelling signal when the steering device has been returned by a predetermined amount toward its normal position.

    • A turn signal cancelling apparatus for a vehicle having a handlebar and a blinker unit which is operable to be activated by a manual operation and is operable to be deactivated by a cancelling signal. The apparatus comprises a handlebar turning angle detecting arrangement which detects the turning angle of the handlebar and provides a signal when the return angle of the handlebar exceeds a specified degree following turning operation of the vehicle, at least one of a time measuring arrangement which measures the time which elapses after the blinker unit has been activated and provides a signal when the specified time has elapsed, and a distance measuring arrangement which measure the travel distance of the vehicle after the blinker unit has been activated and provides a signal when the specified travel distance has been exceeded, and an output arrangement which provides the turn signal cancelling signal in response to at least one of the aforesaid signals, thereby providing an appropriate timing for automatically cancelling the turn signal of the vehicle.

    • A light-controlled light modulator can achieve high-speed, low-loss wavelength conversion. Continuous light with a wavelength λj is launched into an MMI coupler via a port, and is split into two parts by the MMI coupler, which are led to a loop-type interferometer. In the loop-type interferometer, the two parts travel separately around the loop as clockwise traveling light and counterclockwise traveling light, are combined by the MMI coupler again via a filter-equipped phase modulator, thereby being emitted to the port. In this state, signal light λi(s) with a wavelength λi is launched into the filter-equipped phase modulator via a port. Even when the wavelength λi of the signal light λi(s) is equal to the wavelength λj of the wavelength converted output light, the wavelength conversion can be achieved with preventing noise from being mixed into the output light emitted from a port.

    • A pressure sensor has a sensing unit and a pressure transmitting rod housed in a case, and a pressure receiving diaphragm. The case has a sensing unit housing portion and a pipe portion that extends from the sensing unit housing portion in a form of a pipe. The pipe portion includes an inner pipe and an outer pipe. The inner pipe is arranged inside the outer pipe and fixed to the outer pipe. The pipe portion has the first end located adjacent to the sensing unit and the second end away from the sensing unit. The inner pipe is projected from the outer pipe at the second end of the pipe portion. The pressure receiving diaphragm is welded to the inner pipe at the second end of the pipe portion such that it covers an opening of the inner pipe. The pressure transmitting rod is arranged inside the case such that its first end and second end are located on the sensing unit side and the pressure receiving diaphragm side, respectively. Pressure received by the pressure sensing diaphragm is transmitted to the sensing unit via the pressure transmitting rod.
