    • A tool engageable in a driving device is used for inserting and setting self-drilling dowels of the type consisting of a drill member and a spreader member. The tool is formed of an integral transmission member and plunger and an engaging member laterally encircling the plunger. The transmission member-plunger is axially displaceable relative to the engaging member. Percussive and rotative forces generated in the driving device are transferred into the transmission member-plunger. Projections are formed on the transmission member and engage surfaces on the engaging member for selectively transmitting one or both of the percussive and rotative forces to the drill member. Further, by axially displacing the transmission member-plunger relative to the engaging member, the spreader member can be driven into the drill member for setting or anchoring it within the borehole formed in the receiving material by the drill member.

    • A self-drilling dowel has a drill head extending across its leading end. A bore extending through the dowel from its trailing end is closed at its leading end by the drill head forming a centrally located blind bore. The blind bore is cylindrically shaped for a part of its axial length from the trailing end of the dowel with the remainder of its axial length to its closed end tapering inwardly from the surface of the cylindrically shaped part. A spreader is positionable in the central bore with complementary dimensioned surfaces relative to the cylindrically shaped and tapering parts of the bore. Slots are formed in the dowel and extend from the drill head to approximately the transition plane between the cylindrically shaped and tapering parts of the blind bore. The slots have a dimension extending transversely of the axis of the bore just sufficient to open into the bore at the transition plane. The drill head has a centering point projecting outwardly from the remainder of its surface at the leading end of the dowel. The part of the drill head forming the centering point is shaped so that it can separate from the dowel when the spreader is driven through the central bore toward the leading end of the dowel.

    • An electropneumatic hammer drill includes a housing containing a guide cylinder in which an exciter piston and a percussion piston are displaceably mounted in spaced relation with an air cushion formed between them. A hollow shaft encircles the guide cylinder within the housing and transmits rotary motion to a tool mounted in the hammer drill. A crankshaft for reciprocating the exciter piston via a piston rod is supported in two bearings located in the guide cylinder. The percussion mechanism for the hammer drill made up of the guide cylinder, the exciter piston, the percussion piston, the crankshaft and the piston rod form a subassembly. The subassembly can be inserted into and removed from the hammer drill as a unit.

    • A safety clutch for a motor-driven hand tool breaks the rotational drive train when a working tool becomes seized in a receiving material. The safety clutch includes coupling members (25) positioned in a part (22) for transmitting rotational movement to the working tool. The coupling members (25) are radially displaceable within the part (22) between a first position rotatably connecting the part and a power take-off spindle (21) and a second position releasing the connection between the part and spindle. An annular inertial mass (28) rotates with and is rotatable relative to the part (22). The mass (28) has recesses (31) in its inner surface for receiving the coupling members (25) in the second position, and it has support surfaces for holding the coupling members (25) in connecting engagement in recesses (27) in the spindle in the first position.
