    • Coils tuned to a first and a second frequency are positioned in pairs along the track in approach to the station at which trains are to stop automatically, two pairs being shown. -the first pair are spaced a distance which establishes a selected passage time in accordance with average train speeds while the second pair are separated a distance proportional to predetermined differences in train lengths. On the train two transmitter and/or receivers are coupled by a common pair of coils to inductively respond to the corresponding frequency wayside coil. Response to the initial first frequency coil opens a gate which enables the other transmitter-receiver for a predetermined time or distance interval to respond to the second frequency wayside coil of the initial pair. Only if the train coils pass this second frequency coil during this gating interval is the station stop program initiated by the response of the second transmitter-receiver. While passing the second set of wayside coils, the response of the first or second transmitter-receiver is selectively used, in accordance with a preset train length condition, to modify the station stop program to improve the accuracy of the station stop position.

    • A separate transmitter source of periodic high voltage pulses is coupled to each approach section rails at the end distant from the permanent shunt across the rails at a railroad crossing. Each pulse transmits a high level oscillating current pulse through the rail loop including the intersecting rail shunt so that similar track currents flow in both approach sections. A single receiver means is coupled to each rail shunt by a separate pickup coil, the output of which is rectified to charge a storage capacitor at an averaged voltage level representative of the amplitude of the current pulses in the corresponding shunt. The voltages stored in both capacitors are applied to the dual inputs of a two channel, vital level detector and logic AND circuit element. An output signal is produced by the level detector and AND circuits only when both inputs are at or above a level representative of an unoccupied section. The output is then applied, through a relay driver circuit, to a vital type track relay to jointly register the occupancy condition of both crossing approaches.

    • This disclosure relates to a fail-safe vehicle-carried anticollision receiver for automatically applying and releasing the service brakes to control the movement of a vehicle. The receiver includes an electromagnetic inductive coil for normally picking up two a.c. signals from the wayside as the vehicle moves along its route of travel. The a.c. signals are amplified by a preamplifier and are individually transformer coupled to a pair of signal frequency responsive circuits each of which includes an amplifier and a rectifier. Each of the rectified d.c. output signals of the signal frequency responsive circuits is coupled to a separate input of an amplitude level detecting and logic circuit. The detecting and logic circuit produces a.c. oscillations which are amplified and rectified by a relay driving circuit. The rectified output of the relay driving circuit normally energizes a vital relay which maintains its back contacts open to deactivate the service brake control apparatus when and only when the presence and level of both of the d.c. input signals to the detecting and logic circuit are produced due to the reception of the two a.c. input signals.
