摘要： A vacuum packaging system for transporting a plurality of medical containers including a tray that supports the medical containers and an air impervious flexible film defining an internal cavity. The air impervious flexible film completely surrounds the tray and the medical containers. The internal cavity is evacuated to a predetermined vacuum level below atmospheric pressure. A method for packaging the plurality of medical containers for transportation in the tray includes inserting the medical containers into the tray, inserting the tray filled with medical containers into the internal cavity, evacuating the internal cavity to a predetermined vacuum pressure and sealing the flexible film such that the predetermined vacuum pressure is generally maintained in the internal cavity.

摘要： A drug delivery system for administering preset doses of a substance such as a drug, vaccine or the like. The drug delivery system includes a holder and a pre-filled drug container such as a syringe which is retained in the holder. The drug container includes a barrel for containing the substance, a movable stopper situated within the barrel, and a blunt end having an opening through which the substance within the barrel can be expelled. The holder includes a distal portion and a proximal portion, each configured to accommodate the drug container, with the distal portion being able to be assembled to the proximal portion, which acts as a plunger rod during activation of the delivery system. A plurality of slots are provided on the holder that permit multiple equal doses of the substance to be administered to each nostril of the patient.

摘要： A transfer set assembly for transferring fluids between a first container, such as a conventional medical vial, having a sealed open end and a second container such as a conventional IV infusion bag. The transfer set includes a collar having a proximate tubular end portion for securement to the container, a needle cannula and holder assembly, which is telescopically received in a distal tubular portion of the collar, and a closure including a tubular body portion having an open proximate end which is telescopically received over the needle cannula and holder assembly and the distal tubular portion of the collar, a closed distal end portion and an inner tubular portion which is integral with the closed distal end. The inner tubular portion includes a free end having spiral camming surfaces which mate with spiral camping surfaces on the inside surface of the tubular distal portion of the needle cannula holder. The tubular body portion of the closure includes lateral slots which receive projections on the collar and contiguous camming surface which extends toward the proximate open end of the closure. Rotation of the closure relative to the collar first drives the mating spiral camming surfaces of the closure and holder together, thereby driving the needle cannula and holder assembly axially to pierce the seal of the container. Continued rotation of the closure drives the projections on the collar against the contiguous angled camming surface, driving the closure from the collar and providing access to the needle cannula for transfer of fluids to a second container, such as an IV infusion bag.

摘要： A lockable safety shield assembly for a prefillable syringe is provided. The design of the lockable safety shield assembly enhances pharmaceutical manufacturers' ease of assembling the various components as part of its filling or processing of the prefillable syringes in normal practice, while at the same time minimizes difficulties in mating parts made from different materials. A tube is placed around the outside surface of the syringe barrel and affixed thereto. A collar is provided on the tube adjacent the distal end of the syringe barrel. A safety shield is axially slidable over the tube between a retracted position, wherein the distal end of the piercing element associated with the prefillable syringe is exposed, and an extended position, wherein the safety shield is locked to the collar to protectively cover the distal end of the piercing element. The safety shield includes locking structure configured so that the shield can be easily fitted over the tube. The locking structure includes at least one deflectable arm provided on the body of the shield. The deflectable arm includes a proximal end deflectable towards the interior of the shield. A stop member is provided on the interior of a shield in spaced relation to the proximal end of the deflectable arm. A ring is axially slidable over the shield to deflect the arm towards the interior of the shield to activate the locking structure. The safety shield is slid distally by an end user such that the collar is lockingly retained between the stop member and the proximal end of the deflectable arm. The collar, the stop member, and the deflectable arm may be configured to provide tactile as well as audible indication of locking to the end user.

摘要： A lockable safety shield for a prefillable syringe is provided. The design of the lockable safety shield enhances pharmaceutical manufacturers' ease of assembling the various components as part of its filling or processing of the prefillable syringes in normal practice. A collar is attachable to the distal hub of the prefillable syringe. A safety shield is axially slidable over the collar between a retracted position, wherein the distal end of the piercing element associated with the prefillable syringe is exposed, and an extended position, wherein the safety shield is locked to the collar to protectively cover the distal end of the piercing element. The safety shield includes locking structure configured so that the shield, as supplied to the pharmaceutical manufacturer, can be easily fitted to the syringe. The locking structure includes at least one deflectable arm provided on the body of the shield. The deflectable arm includes a proximal end deflectable towards the interior of the shield. A stop member is provided on the interior of a shield in spaced relation to the proximal end of the deflectable arm. A ring is axially slidable over the shield to deflect the arm towards the interior of the shield to activate the locking structure. The safety shield is slid distally by an end user such that the collar is lockingly retained between the stop member and the proximal end of the deflectable arm. The collar, the stop member, and the deflectable arm may be configured to provide tactile as well as audible indication of locking to the end user.
