    • An ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a central core, a primary coil and a secondary coil arranged outside of the central core, a magnet arranged in abutment with one end face of the central core and magnetized in a direction opposite to the direction of a magnetic flux generated by energization of the primary coil, a side core arranged outside of the first and second primary coils so as to cooperate with the central core and the magnet to form a closed magnetic circuit, and a flexible core cover arranged to cover the side core. The side core includes a first side core section and a second side core section which have their one end faces arranged in abutment with each other. The first and second side core sections have their other ends in abutment against the magnet and the other end face of the central core, respectively.

    • The ignition coil includes an exciting core having a substantially I-shape, and a closed magnetic path forming core having a substantially C-shape. The ignition coil is constructed in such a manner that first contact faces are formed by a first face of the exciting core and a first face of the closed magnetic path forming core, and a permanent magnet is arranged between these first contact faces, while second contact faces are formed by a second face of the exciting core which is directed to a different direction from the aforesaid first face and a second face of the closed magnetic path forming core which is directed to a different direction from the aforesaid first face.

    • An electrical connector connecting a spark plug to an ignition coil comprising electrically insulating caps each having a cylindrical engaging surface adapted to be attached to the spark plug and the ignition coil. An electrically insulating sheath is attached and engaged with the engaging surfaces of the insulating caps at the engaging surfaces at its opposite ends so that at least one cylindrical engaging interface is defined therebetween. An electrical conductor is supported by and extended through the insulating sheath for electrically connecting the ignition coil and the high voltage terminal of the spark plug to each other. The electrical connector also comprises an electrically insulating structure, disposed in the engaging interface between the engaging surfaces of the caps and the sheath, for providing additional electrical insulation in the engaging interface. The insulating structure may be a circumferential annular ridge and groove in the engaging interface, an electrically insulating bonding agent disposed in the engaging interface, an axially extending annular wall and groove, or a circumferential annular space defined in the engaging interface between the engaging surfaces and a volume of electrically insulating bonding agent filled within the annular space.

    • An ignition coil device for an internal combustion engine includes an air gap between the two heat generating sources, the coil assembly and the power transistor unit, such that the coil assembly and the power transistor unit are thermally isolated from each other. Further, the primary winding bobbin has an inner projection inserted into the air gap of the core to maintain the gap. Furthermore, the primary winding bobbin and the secondary winding bobbin each has a first and a second bobbin attachment portion. First the high voltage tower attachment portion of the high voltage tower is engaged with the bobbin attachment portion on the secondary winding bobbin and the connector attachment portion of the connector is engaged with the bobbin attachment portion on the primary winding bobbin, to form respective integral sub-units. Then, the second bobbin attachment portion on the primary winding bobbin is engaged with the second bobbin attachment portion on the secondary winding bobbin, to form an integral assembly, which is then inserted into the mold resin casing after the necessary electrical connections are made outside of the mold resin casing. The interior wiring for connecting the power transistor unit to the connector extends outside of the core such that adverse effects of the flux in the core on the interior wiring are prevented.

    • An ignition coil device for an internal-combustion engine reduces the deterioration in reliability caused by heat stress. The ignition coil device is provided with: a case (5); a core (6) provided in the case (5); a primary coil (8) which is provided so that it surrounds the core (6) and which has a primary winding (13) trough which a primary current flows composed of a conductor wound around a bottomed cylindrical primary bobbin (12); a secondary coil (9) which is provided so that it surrounds the primary coil (8) and in which high voltage is generated by the interruption of the primary current; a stopper (21) which is provided at an opening (12a) of the primary bobbin (12) to close the opening (12a) of the primary bobbin (12); and an insulator (11) composed of a thermosetting resin which is provided in the case (5) to secure the primary coil (8) and the secondary coil (9) in the case (5). The stopper (21) prevents the insulator (11), which has not yet been thermally cured, from flowing between the core (6) and the primary bobbin (12) when it is charged into the case (5).
