    • A method of generating a scenic rating for segments of an electronic map involves obtaining probe data relating to the movement of a plurality of devices with respect to time in the area, and, for each one of a plurality of segments of the electronic map; identifying a set of positional data relating to the movement of devices along the navigable element represented by the segment, filtering the identified set of positional data relating to the movement of devices along the navigable element represented by the segment based on mode of transport to obtain one or more subset of the identified positional data relating to the movement of devices along the element represented by the segment which may be expected to relate to traversals of the navigable element for recreational purposes, using the or each obtained subset of the positional data to obtain one or more scenicity parameter which may be used in determining a scenic rating for the segment indicative of a scenicity of the navigable element represented by the segment, and using the one or more obtained scenicity parameter to determine a scenic rating for the segment.

    • There is disclosed herein methods of operating a computing device, such as a server, to associate a hazard with a zone of a digital map. The method comprises the computing device: receiving data representative of a location of a hazard matched to a location on a digital map accessible to said computing device; and determining if the repository comprises data representative of a zone corresponding to a region of a digital map containing the location of the hazard, to which the hazard should be associated. If the repository does not comprise data representative of such a zone, the method further comprises generating data representative of a zone corresponding to a region of a digital map containing the location of the hazard, and storing the generated data representative of said zone in the data repository. There is also disclosed herein computing devices and software for carrying out these methods.

    • Embodiments of the present invention provide a method of resolving a point location from a location reference, the location reference comprising a plurality of location reference points, each location reference point being representative of a node in a first digital map and having attributes associated therewith from the first digital map, including geographic coordinates of the node, so as to define a path between a start location reference point and an end location reference point, the location reference further comprising an offset value representative of a distance along the path. The method comprises obtaining (410) the geographic coordinates of the start location reference point (210) and the end location reference point (220), determining geographic coordinates of a location (250) along a line (230) extending between the geographic coordinates of the start location reference point (210) and the end location reference point (220) corresponding to the offset value (240), and using the determined geographic coordinates (250) as an approximate location of the point location in a second digital map.
