摘要： Apparatus and method for converting coal into useful motor fuels and metallurgical coke using a self-cleaning coal pyrolyzer wherein coal is heated in the absence of air at temperatures greater than 800.degree. F. to remove volatile hydrocarbon gases therefrom. Char remaining after such pyrolyzation is cooled and pulverized and mixed with selected binders at temperatures ranging from 125.degree. to 200.degree. F. to form briquettes. The briquettes are calcined at temperatures ranging from 1800.degree. to 2000.degree. F. to form metallurgical coke. The gaseous hydrocarbons are separated into liquid coal fuels, non-condensable gases and water vapor. The liquid coal fuels are further separated into various motor fuels while the non-condensable gases are used to fuel the coal pyrolyzer.

摘要： A class of modified hydrophilic prepolymers and polymers is disclosed which are characterized by their specific reactivity. Isocyanate-capped oxyethylene-based prepolymers are modified by reacting with a compound having an isocyanate-reactive group which is a sulfhydryl group, an amino group, a hydroxyl group or a carboxyl group, and a non-isocyanate-reactive group, in quantities sufficient to modify at least a portion of the isocyanate groups of the prepolymer. Where said first functional group is an amino group contained in a diamine or polyamine compound or is a carboxyl group, the modifying compound is present in quantities sufficient to modify all or substantially all of the isocyanate groups of the prepolymer.

摘要： A char making apparatus comprises a longitudinal pyrolyzer furnace housing wherein coal-bearing material may be heated to a temperature to fluidize volatile materials therein and plasticize coal in the coal-bearing material. At least two rotatable drive screws are laterally positioned and interleaved within the longitudinal furnace housing and capable of conveying coal-bearing materials through the pyrolyzer furnace housing, each drive screw having a hollow drive shaft and a diverter positioned within the drive shaft to provide heating to the coal-bearing material. A heating jacket about the longitudinal furnace housing provides additional heating to the coal-bearing material. Multiple combustion chambers adjacent the heating jacket and hollow drive shaft burn fluidized volatile materials and exhaust combustion fluids through the jacket and shaft.

摘要： The cell culturing system of the present invention includes a tubular membrane, e.g. hollow fiber, cartridge. Provision is made for the continuous circulation of a nutrient-containing medium through the tube side of the cartridge by pumping the nutrient-containing medium in an endless loop. The cells to be cultured are placed within the cartridge on the shell side where the desired extracellular products are accumulated. Nutrients are assimilated into the cell culture through the semipermeable tubular membranes and waste products are removed by passing through the semipermeable membranes into the recirculating nutrient-containing medium. Within the endless loop are located a circulating pump, an oxygenator and a pH probe. The system additionally includes a variable delivery feed pump for continuously injecting fresh nutrient-containing solution into the loop, which feed pump is operated at a rate responsive to the measured pH. A portion of the stream exiting the cartridge is continuously split off at a rate identical to that for the introduction for fresh nutrient-containing solution in order to maintain cellular waste products at a suitably low level. The conventional nutrient-solution preparation reservoir has been eliminated from the loop in order to simplify the system and reduce the potential points of entry for contaminating microorganisms. The membrane cartridge is mounted with its longitudinal axis at approximately 60.degree. with respect to the horizontal.

The inner material has a blowing agent uniformly distributed throughout the inner material. The outer material surrounds the inner material. The use of the blowing agent in the inner material produces a repeatable and consistent structure, as the blowing agent is uniformly activated through the product. The use of the gas-assist the heat and pressure associated with the blowing agent is allowed to out gas, thereby insuring that the finished molded chair or other item is aesthetically pleasing while providing increased strength and reduced weight compared to traditional plastic chairs formed with known methods.

A combustion chamber combusts fuel to create heated exhaust gas for directing through the hollow drive shafts to heat the volatile material. The pyrolyzer furnace housing may have a double wall with a cavity between, capable of receiving heated fluid for further heating of volatile material moving through the pyrolyzer furnace housing.
