    • An optical printer using laser beams, wherein, when a plurality (n) of laser beams are used at once to carry out a scanning operation, the positions of spots of said laser beams in both the primary scanning direction and sub-scanning direction are set so as to have the relation l=(n-1)a+m.multidot.n.multidot.a, wherein m is a positive integer (m.gtoreq.1); a the distance between the adjacent scanning lines in the sub-scanning direction on the printing surface of the optical printer after a printing operation; and l the distance between the adjacent laser beams in the sub-scanning direction on the surface of a photosensitive drum, whereby a high-quality printing effecting no overlapping and omission of images can be obtained even if the distance between the adjacent laser beams is increased during a scanning operation using a plurality of laser beams at once.

    • Electric-photosensitive printing is accomplished with an LD providing a laser scanning beam that is modulated to affect printing, and the power output of the LED is maintained constant through negative feedback by a holding voltage provided by a capacitor having its charge determined only during a non-printing portion of the printing period wherein a plurality of sheets are printed. During the non-printing period, contact of the scanning laser beam with the electro-photosensitive material is disabled while the laser beam is maintained on so that its power may be measured and compared with a reference level to provide a feedback signal for controlling the output of the laser beam, particularly the feedback signal being provided to the holding capacitor only during the non-printing portion of the period, and the holding capacitor being isolated from the feedback signal during the printing portion of the period. As a specific embodiment, a rectangular sheet of electric-photosensitive material is replaceable wound around a drum so that its opposite ends are spaced apart to provide a seam to affect the disablement of the laser beam from contracting the electro-photosensitive material during the non-printing portion of the period, and a separate light source used to detect this seam portion to determine the non-printing portion of the period.

The first lens of the F.theta. lens system is provided on the rotary polyhedral mirror side and is constructed with a joined lens, to increase the degree of design of the first lens. This design freedom for the F.theta. lens system improves the F.theta. characteristic (i.e., characteristic of displacement on a scanning plane), the field curvature characteristic (i.e., characteristic of image defocusing on the scanning plane) and similar problems.

    • In a laser beam scanning apparatus, first and second laser beam emitters emit a laser beam polarized in a specific direction and a laser beam polarized in the direction orthogonal with this specific direction. A prism passes a laser beam emitted from the first laser beam emitter but reflects a laser beam emitted from the second laser beam emitter, and amalgamates two laser beams emitted from the first and second laser beam emitters in almost the same direction. A rotating polygonal mirror and a scanning lens simultaneously scan on a scanned plane two laser beams amalgamated by the prism. A 1/4 wavelength plate is inserted between the rotating polygonal mirror and the prism to change the laser beam from the prism from a linearly polarized state to a circularly polarized state. By the above arrangement, a difference of reflection factors between two laser beams incident to the rotating polygonal mirror can be eliminated so that two uniform laser beams can be scanned at the same time.
