    • In an insect lure and trap, a system for generating a carbon dioxide attractant has a combustion chamber in which carbon dioxide is generated by means of an exothermic reaction from a gaseous fuel rich in carbon. A container contains a pressurized supply of said fuel and a supply line connects said container to said combustion chamber. A normally closed valve is included in said supply line. The system includes means for sensing the temperature in said combustion chamber and for generating a control signal representative of said temperature. A controller responsive to said control signal compares said temperature to a reference temperature and opens said valve during selected segments of successive equal time intervals.

    • Methods of manufacturing a frozen food product in a chamber having a tubular refrigerated wall and a partition which is movable along the chamber between upper and lower positions include multiple steps. First, after positioning the partition at its upper position, a liquid food product mix is introduced into the chamber above the partition so that the mix forms a pool of a selected depth atop the partition. The partition is then moved downward towards its lower position at a selected rate which causes the mix in the pool to flow outward under gravity into contact with the wall where it at least partially freezes to form an adherent uniform frozen mix layer on progressively lower segments of that wall. Then, the frozen mix layer is scraped from the wall to form a multiplicity of frozen scrapings, which are collected in a receptacle and dispensed as a frozen food product.

    • An apparatus for continuously measuring the elemental contents of a slurryndependent of the slurry density and slurry composition, by utilizing X-ray fluorescence analysis. The apparatus includes a measuring chamber with a slurry flow channel and a first measuring window disposed on one side of the channel and a second measuring window disposed on the other side of the channel. A first source of primary radiation and a target are disposed behind the second measuring window. A detector is disposed behind the first measuring window. An annular source of primary radiation is provided around an open passage formed by a collimator between the detector and the first measuring window. The collimator collimates the primary radiation and the target radiation as well as the X-ray radiation excited by the first source and the annular source.

    • An apparatus for bending a laminated thermoplastic sheet without displacing the lamina relative to one another includes a clamp which functions to hold the sheet during the bending procedure. A support is disposed adjacent the clamp and has a curved surface for forming a bend in the sheet and a flat surface which constitutes an abutment for the part of the sheet being bent. The support is adjustable to vary the angle of bending. A bending device for the sheet comprises a carriage having a bending roller, and a ram whose size approximates that of the flat abutment surface. The sheet is clamped with a portion thereof projecting freely above the flat abutment surface and heated. The bending roller thereupon forces the sheet against the curved surface to bend the sheet and then moves across the projecting portion of the sheet to urge such portion into engagement with the flat abutment surface. Once the roller has completed its travel across the projecting portion of the sheet, the ram is applied to the projecting portion and holds it against the flat abutment surface until the sheet is cooled. The carriage is guided in a track having two sections of which one is parallel to and adjustable with the support.
