    • A display medium drive device includes: a translucent display medium, a back substrate opposing the display substrate, a dispersant sealed between the display substrate and the back substrate, and plural types of particle groups with different colors and charge polarities that are dispersed in the dispersant so as to move in the inter-substrate space in response to an electric field; and a voltage application unit which, in a case of displaying a gradation of a color of a first particle group, applies a first voltage and which is a voltage equal to or greater than a threshold voltage needed to cause at least some of the first particle group to detach from the display substrate or the back substrate and thereafter applies a second voltage that has the same polarity as the first voltage and is lower than the threshold voltage.

    • Provided is a method to drive an image display medium. The method may include applying a variable voltage to a common electrode provided in a first substrate, applying a second voltage to a pixel electrode provided in a second substrate through active matrix driving, wherein the image display medium includes a plurality of kinds of particles sealed between the first and second substrates, the plurality kinds of particles having different threshold characteristics of voltages required to move the particles between the first and second substrates; and controlling through a controller to apply a third voltage between the first and second substrates through a plurality of steps in which the third voltage minimizes particle movements between the first and second substrates during a deviation time such that particles do not move when a potential difference between the first and second substrates is equal to or less than the threshold characteristics of the particles, wherein the deviation time is generated due to deviation of a scanning timing and the potential difference between the first and second substrates.

    • A data input system including electronic paper and a stylus writing device is disclosed. The electronic paper includes a transparent display substrate on which a number of optically readable code patterns have been formed, the optically readable code patterns representing positional information on a display surface, a rear surface substrate opposing the display substrate, and coloring particles that are enclosed between the display substrate and the rear surface substrate and that are movable by applying an electric or a magnetic field. The electronic paper displays an image due to motion of the particle. The stylus writing device includes a writing head provided at the end of the stylus for writing the image by applying an electric or a magnetic field to the electronic paper by contact and includes an optical reading device for optically reading the code patterns formed on the display surface where the end of the stylus contacts.
